This meditation is produced by Harvesting Happiness.

During this meditation you are invited to focus your attention on a tree you can see.

So,

Beginning by taking a moment to settle into a comfortable position somewhere you can see a tree.

Are you in the park,

Sitting under the canopy of a large old tree?

Perhaps you are in your garden,

Focusing your attention on a bush,

Shrub or even a pot plant.

Are you in your living room,

Casting your gaze outside at a tree far off in the distance?

Or are you sitting on your balcony or in your courtyard,

Looking at a tree in a neighbour's yard or on the side of the road?

Once you have found your tree,

Taking a moment to settle in,

Knowing that this tree is the focus of your meditation.

This meditation begins with your eyes open,

But please feel free to close your eyes at any stage.

This is your meditation.

Taking a moment now to befriend this tree,

Noticing it in its entirety.

Casting your eye around the tree's outline.

What do you notice?

Can you offer this tree a smile of gratitude for the vital work it does in transforming carbon dioxide into oxygen for you to breathe?

Inviting you now to enjoy three deep,

Grateful breaths.

Focusing now for a few moments on your inhale,

Which contains fresh oxygen entering your lungs from where it can be absorbed into your bloodstream.

Moving your attention to your exhale,

This wonderful opportunity to rid your body of carbon dioxide,

To let go of what no longer serves you.

What are the qualities of your exhale today?

As you exhale,

Can you let go of tension somewhere in your body?

In your shoulders,

Your belly,

Or the area across your eyes?

Perhaps you are able to let go of a particular thought or feeling.

Can you let go of a worry you have?

Now,

Returning your attention to the tree.

Can you picture this tree breathing also,

But in reverse?

Inhaling carbon dioxide,

Exhaling oxygen.

Can you feel a sense of connection to this tree as you both breathe?

Perhaps in your mind you can picture the flow of air between you both.

Continuing to focus on this experience of shared breath.

The flow of life.

Slowly cultivating a felt sense of gratitude for the way trees support us each day.

Can you feel this gratitude somewhere in your body?

What do you notice?

Now turning your attention to the colours of this tree.

People often describe trees as simply green,

But with sincere attention you may notice more.

What colours do you see?

Do you notice different shades and tones within these colours?

And what about texture?

What do you notice about the texture of its trunk,

Branches,

Leaves or flowers?

Is this tree moving or is it still?

Does this tree show signs of the season?

If so,

What clues does it give you?

How does this tree fit into the environment?

Imagining yourself moving closer to this tree.

If you touched it,

What would it feel like?

How old do you think this tree is?

Enjoying a few more breaths,

Continuing to attend to this tree with curiosity and openness.

Have you noticed something new?

Since the dawn of our species,

Trees have been our silent companions.

They are our oldest friends.

The healing capacity of trees dates back thousands of years.

Trees play an important role in Indigenous traditions.

They feature in ancient mythology.

Trees have been the focus of artists and poets for centuries.

They have long captured the attention of explorers.

Today,

Babies crawl and explore in the shade of trees.

Kids climb their branches with freedom and curiosity.

Families picnic,

Connect and share under their canopies.

Lovers cuddle and daydream.

Bride and grooms exchange rings and wedding vows.

Ashes are spread.

Secrets,

Hopes and dreams are shared.

Trees witness our joys and our sorrows,

Our cycle of life.

Breathing into this knowing.

We can learn a great deal from trees.

Trees are wise,

Patient,

Accepting.

Trees have mastered the art of being.

They are resilient,

Surviving storms,

Fire,

Snow and drought.

Trees contribute to ecosystems in large and small ways.

They provide home and shelter for animals.

You may now like to gently close your eyes.

Taking some time now to explore your relationship with trees.

Thank you for watching!

Perhaps a memory comes to mind,

A feeling,

A sensation in your body.

A memory of the past.

A memory of the past.

A memory of the past.

A memory of the past.

A memory of the past.

Now,

Enjoying another three deep grateful breaths for this tree of your meditation and for what this tree represents to you.

As you connect to this tree,

Can you imagine it as your friend?

A wise,

Loyal friend who knows you so well.

A friend who doesn't judge.

A friend who wants the best for you and asks for nothing in return.

Perhaps this tree has a message for you,

Something it wants to say.

Taking a moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

A moment now to listen for its message.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

Listening with curiosity and openness.

For the last few minutes can you bask in these feelings of connectedness,

Gratitude,

Awe and wonder.

For this tree and for all trees.

For this tree and for all trees.

For this tree and for all trees.

For this tree and for all trees.

How do you feel?

How do you feel?

When you are ready please open your eyes.

When you are ready please open your eyes.

What do you notice?

What do you notice?

This meditation has been an invitation to see with fresh eyes and heart what many of us take for granted.

The beauty and wisdom of trees.

Taking these fresh perspective into your days.

Slowly inviting some movement into your body.

Taking a nice deep breath.

And then this meditation with a final grateful smile.

Willow and I hike among the Hemlocks in an ancient forest. And long after the ancestors of anyone who knew us are gone, the Hemlocks will still bear witness to our having hiked among them. We are held in the grace of the forest, and we are free.

Simply wonderful! This has unlocked so many memories of my young childhood and my connection to various trees. I really needed this today! Blessings

I will show greater appreciation for the trees 🌲 that surround me. My tree, enduring the cold and wind of winter, said “Persevere “. Thank you. ...... My trees are covered with ice today. They say “I am resilient “. 5/15

As this meditation came to an end, I stood under a towering oak. I have enjoyed all your meditations. I have completed about 95% of yours, so I'm nearing the end of your guided practices. This meditation on trees, however, has been my favorite. I will bookmark it, returning to it time and again. Thank you.

Absolutely great .. a trip back to some childhood memories.. and 'the' tree.. already quite tall then..still standing majestically proud.. witness to so many changes.. but still standing strong.. now in wintertime.. I could feel the life inside him.. strong and steady like a heartbeat.. comforting.. he will be there again.. for us.. and for everyone.. bustling with fresh leaves and life.. in the years to come.. shelter.. confidant.. Thank you Fleur for being my tree this year.. have a great 2019

Wow....I wouldn’t have thought of a tree meditation before today. But I lost a friend who always said to lean up against a tree during hard times. Then today in a (hair)color class they showed a video of inspiration from nature and it ended on an image that said “I believe in the kindness of trees”. Me = sobbing. So it prompted me to look this up and I’m so glad I did. Very very grounding and comforting especially during a rough patch ❤️

This guided meditation is great and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve been reading Peter Wohlleben’s book: “The Hidden Life of Trees” and the meditation was a great accompaniment to the book. Thank you!!

Great meditation. Loved the pace and have learnt more about trees. I've always had a deep respect for trees, but now I feel love and understanding too. Such an important connection and awareness to have with trees. My only complaint is when you spoke about brides and groom's sharing vows, It sounded as though you were speaking about heterosexual couples, which to me felt quite short- sighted and open to misinterpretation.
