A typical session is seated and quiet. The practitioner rests attention on the heart region and lets feelings of care, tenderness, and openness arise, and in the traditional form a trainer guides a cleaning practice and a silent transmission known as Pranahuti. The emphasis is somatic and experiential rather than analytical: attention returns again and again to a felt warmth or steadiness in the chest rather than to spoken phrases or a deliberately paced breath.
Do not confuse Heartfulness with Heart Coherence practice, which deliberately manipulates breathing rhythm to steady the heartbeat; Heartfulness instead cultivates natural heartful qualities without pacing the breath. It also differs from loving-kindness meditation, which repeats cognitive phrases of goodwill, whereas Heartfulness stays somatic and experiential, anchoring in a felt sense in the chest. It is a meditation practice, not a medical treatment or a substitute for care.

Heart Coherence Practice steers the breath to a set rhythm to shape a target heart-rhythm pattern, often with a biofeedback device. Heartfulness keeps breathing natural and works through cultivated warmth and a lineage form rather than deliberate rhythm control.
Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta)
Loving-kindness builds goodwill by repeating spoken phrases of care toward self and others. Heartfulness reaches a similar warmth through somatic, experiential attention to the heart region, not phrase repetition, and adds cleaning and guided transmission.
HeartMath biofeedback technology
HeartMath refers to a specific commercial coherence-training system with sensors and software. Heartfulness is a lineage meditation practice with no device requirement; they draw on overlapping cardiac-coherence ideas but are not the same thing.
