Good morning,
Good afternoon,
Good evening.
So,
My experience,
And obviously it's just an opinion,
Is that most people on the spiritual path don't find what they're looking for.
Because we end up chasing ideas.
Ideas.
Like this phone in my hand was an idea in someone's mind at some point,
It was practical.
That results in a phone,
Which was the idea of the idea.
That's the outcome of that idea,
It's practical.
But we're not doing that,
We're chasing ideas that don't exist,
Out of a kind of desperate hope that someday something will happen.
I'll develop myself enough,
I'll prove myself worthy,
Whatever is running the show,
And it won't happen.
It won't get there.
Because it's an idea.
The idea itself doesn't exist.
So what do we do?
We turn it around.
What does exist is the cause of our suffering,
The cause of our distress,
Our anxiety,
Our existential fear.
That does exist.
What's the cause?
Keep it simple.
Identification with thought.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
It doesn't take much to see it.
Just walk down the street.
Just sit here.
Just sit here for two minutes and you'll see.
If you're identified with thought,
You suffer.
It's just like two and two equal four.
Whenever you're suffering,
Ask yourself what's the belief?
What's being believed?
What's the story?
It's in the four truths.
Four truths of Buddhism.
It's a second truth.
What's the cause?
It's all in there.
You don't need anything else.
If you're serious about bringing suffering to an end,
You have to look at its cause.
You look at its cause and you see it and you stop going to the thought bar.
It's just a natural outcome of the seeing again and again,
Again and again.
And then when you notice that you're at the thought bar,
You're identified with thought,
You come back to just what's actually happening.
In various ways we can do that.
You can come back to the senses.
You can do that.
I'm not just talking about when we're sitting in meditation here either.
You can do that.
Come back to the senses.
Just the hearing,
Feeling,
Sensing.
Or you can just ask something like,
And this may sound strange,
But it's just to bring you back.
What's between A and B?
Don't answer it.
We're not looking for an answer.
Don't you dare come up with a concept.
Just look.
What's between here and there?
That just brings you right here.
That's all you want.
It doesn't exist.
It's just a,
Even that,
In between that,
What's between here and there,
It's made up,
But it brings you here.
Just this clarity,
Just this presence without thought,
Just for a few moments.
That's where you want to rest.
Either something like that,
Or in the senses,
I'm having the thought,
Dot,
Dot,
Dot.
Don't just let all,
Don't just be dominated by thought and not do anything about it.
It's just maintaining itself.
It's a self-perpetuating loop.
And you just have to be light about it.
It's not about,
It's not a heavy thing.
Just as you're going through your day.
Okay.
That's settled.
And just rest in being.
Rest in the body.
I mean,
Count the breaths if you wish for a few minutes,
Or use the mantra,
Just to help settle the system.
Where's your attention right now?
Remember,
If you're distressed,
You're in thought.
Have a look for yourself.
When I say thoughts,
It includes images,
The imagination.
Just checking that you are relaxed,
Or at least not striving for something.
Not trying to change anything.
No matter what your emotional experience is,
It's welcome.
Just feel what you find.
So life isn't a linear,
From the beginning to the end,
From here to there.
It's an unfoldment.
One moment,
Just keeps unfolding.
Thoughts,
Sounds,
People.
Just watch the unfoldment,
Feel the unfoldment.
If you lose your way,
It's okay.
Just kindness.
Patience.
Just take a breath.
Even listen to the silence.
Feel the stillness.
It's here.
Our interest isn't going to the thought bar,
So we miss it.
We're addicted to the drama.
Calm down.
And relax.
Nothing needs to be done.
So as we go on with our day,
Maybe you want to,
If it resonates,
If you are distressed,
What's being believed here,
It can be quite revealing,
Just to see belief after belief after belief.
Because you're always believing the thoughts anyway,
So there's one belief.
Then you believe the contents of the thoughts.
These are just little tricks,
Just to bring us back out of the drama.
Don't take them all too seriously.
What's between here and not here?
It's just to bring you out of this.
If they resonate.
Okay.
Thank you guys.
