Welcome to this short meditation for stress and anxiety relief.
Take a moment to settle into a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Let's take a deep breath in and slowly exhale.
Again breathing in deeply and breathing out fully.
Let go of any tension as you sink into this moment of stillness.
Now bring your attention to your breath.
Notice the gentle rise and fall of your chest.
There's nothing you need to change,
Simply observe.
If your mind starts to wander,
Gently guide your focus back to your breath.
Let each inhale bring in a sense of calm and each exhale release any stress or worry.
Imagine breathing in peace and breathing out tension.
Let's now bring awareness to the body.
Start by relaxing your forehead,
Then your jaw.
Let your shoulders drop away from your ears.
Release any tension in your arms and hands,
Your stomach,
Your legs and feet.
With every breath allow your body to soften just a little more.
If you notice any tightness,
Simply acknowledge it and let it go with your exhale.
Now I invite you to imagine yourself standing beside a gently flowing river.
The air is fresh and crisp,
Carrying the soft scent of earth and water.
The sun filters through the trees,
Casting dappled light on the surface of the water.
You hear the soothing sound of the river,
Its currents moving steadily,
Effortlessly.
Birds sing in the distance and a light breeze brushes against your skin.
Take a moment to soak in this peaceful place.
Feel the steadiness of the ground beneath your feet,
The presence of nature all around you.
The river is always moving,
Always flowing,
Just like life itself.
Now imagine holding a leaf in your hand.
This leaf represents a worry,
A stressful thought or something weighing on your mind.
Look at it for a moment,
Acknowledging it without judgment.
Then gently place it onto the surface of the water and watch as the current carries it away.
There is no effort needed.
Just like the river flows on its own,
You too can let go without force.
As the leaf drifts away,
Feel yourself growing lighter,
More at ease.
Now pick up another leaf,
Perhaps another worry or tension within you.
Once again,
Place it onto the river and watch it float downstream,
Getting smaller and smaller until it disappears.
You can do this as many times as you need,
Releasing each worry one by one,
Letting them drift far beyond your sight.
There's nothing you need to do or to hold on to right now.
Just breathe,
Watch and let it go.
Pause for a few breaths,
Simply observing the river,
Feeling a sense of openness and ease.
Now slowly bring your awareness back to your breath.
Feel the support of the ground beneath you.
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes,
Reconnecting with your body.
Take one last deep inhale and a long cleansing exhale.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Carry this sense of calm with you as you move through the rest of your day.
