Today's meditation is on self-love.
Let's find a comfortable position to sit with our thoughts,
Notice our feelings or emotions,
And bring awareness to the space within our heart.
We'll take a look around our place of practice,
Taking in as much information as needed.
The light,
The shadows,
The colors,
The textures.
Notice the temperature.
Let's bring awareness to the smells,
The sounds,
The tastes in our mouth.
And then as we shift our position,
Either seated or lying down,
Getting a little bit more comfortable,
Getting to know ourself a little bit more,
As if we're trying to make friends with someone,
Kind of leaning in to ask their name or find out about their interests,
Leaning in towards our heart.
My offering is for us to place our hands on our heart or heart center.
It doesn't matter which palm goes on top,
But simply stacking our hands on top of each other,
Either on the physical heart or our heart center.
If you feel comfortable,
Close your eyes.
And let's bring awareness to our breath,
Noticing the cadence,
The rhythm,
The ebb and flow of the breath,
The undulations up and down the spine,
The expansion and compression of the body.
And if it feels comfortable to organically sway yourself forwards and backwards or side to side,
You are more than welcome to do so.
If you have decided to rock yourself,
You might find that maybe it's the spine that's moving like a pendulum from side to side or forwards and back.
You might bring this awareness to your hips or your feet as there's motion in the body.
And the movement might be very pronounced or might be hidden from view,
But you might feel it within the body.
And if you are moving,
Notice how the movement mimics the inhale and the exhale.
Sometimes it feels nice to round our spine,
Kind of compress the front of the spine as we exhale and as we inhale to elongate the front of the spine and compress the back of the spine.
So a little arching and rounding of the spine might come naturally,
Fluidly.
Again,
At times this is invisible to the naked eye and more visible to that inner eye,
That inner self or inner feelings.
As we sit here,
We are aware of our breath,
Aware of our surroundings,
Aware of the body,
And we are aware of our thoughts.
If we could focus on our heart center,
If you could draw attention into our chest and rib cage,
Maybe within the chest in the inner chamber of our rib cage,
Maybe within the heart or beside the heart.
And there will be certain affirmations that might bubble to the surface.
Affirmations such as,
I am here for you,
Beloved.
I am tenderly holding myself.
I am in full love with who I have become today at this moment.
I have respect and understanding for myself.
I am connected to the love within for myself for myself and that might overflow for others.
Let's take a deep breath in and a deep breath out.
Ever so gently,
We'll separate our palms,
Placing the right hand on our right breast or right chest,
Left hand on the left breast or left chest.
Just holding our hands here,
Noticing the swaying of the spine,
The undulations of the spine,
Noticing the ebb and flow of the chest and rib cage,
Lifting and dropping,
The opening and closing,
The sound of our heart drumming to the surface.
From here,
We'll bring the palms to a beggar's bowl.
So making a bowl in front of us,
Maybe around the belly or rib cage area,
And you can simply start thinking about opening your eyes.
And once your eyes are ready,
We'll open the eyelids and we'll look at those beautiful little lines inside our palms or on our palms and imagine a cup full of love,
Acceptance,
Abundance of of care,
Kindness and tenderness,
Simply towards ourself.
In this beggar's bowl,
There is patience,
There is no ego.
In this bowl,
You might find basic needs such as love,
Attention,
And gratitude.
Slowly lift our bowl and bring it towards the crown of our head.
Then as if the bowl would have water in it,
Notice how this would spill down into your wrists and your forearms,
Your upper arms,
And some of this liquid,
Love liquid,
Would pour onto the crown of our head,
Onto our face,
Our eyes,
Our cheeks,
Our lips,
Our ears,
Down our neck,
Into our chest,
Maybe the rest of the body.
If we're so gently bringing palms back to heart center in Anjali mudra,
Prayer mudra,
Peace mudra,
Or gratitude mudra,
Bowing our head towards our hands,
Our heart,
Our body,
The ground beneath,
The sky above,
And the universe within.
Let's finish by giving ourself a nice big hug.
So much love,
So much love for this self.
Once we find our own cup is full of love,
Our own body,
Our own mind is filled with love,
It's then that we can share it with others,
With our loved ones,
Our family,
Our friends,
Our neighbors,
Colleagues,
Co-workers,
And on.
Have a beautiful day.
Namaste.
