We all have people or figures that we admire. All too often, we see these admirable figures and notice what is different between us - what we don’t have that they do. In this meditation, we’ll explore how the qualities that we admire can also be found within us, inviting ourselves to embody these positive qualities as we go through our day.

Let's begin this meditation by finding a comfortable seat,

Whether you are seated on the ground or in a chair.

Make sure that you feel a sense of evenness between the right and left sides of the spine as much as that's possible in your body.

Make sense of the tailbone dropping,

The heart gently drawing back in space.

Just through the crown of your head.

You'll feel the shoulders soften,

The elbows relax.

And if you are in a chair,

Be sure to find both feet firmly connected to the earth.

As you breathe here,

Let's direct the breath to the center of the head.

You'll find the center of the head by drawing a line directly back from the eyebrows and directly across the tops of the ears.

Where those two lines meet,

That's the center of your head.

That is your place for freedom.

That is the place that is yours and yours alone.

So feel that each breath is energizing,

Illuminating,

Balancing that space in the center of your head.

Each exhale is clearing,

Cleansing,

Releasing anything that is not you,

Not yours,

Not needed at this time.

And we all have,

I like to call a board of directors,

The voices that are in our head,

Commenting on our thoughts,

Our words,

Our actions.

It can be very easy to start to emulate and embody those board of directors,

Which can come from our family,

Our society,

Stories we read,

And other figures.

I'd like to invite us today to consciously choose a member of our board of directors,

A person who we admire,

A superhero,

A person who we have appreciation for,

That there's some qualities that they have or express that feel valuable to us.

So let's bring one person to mind.

It doesn't have to be the perfect person,

But it can be a person that either you've met,

A family member,

A fictional character,

A divine figure,

A superhero,

A historical figure.

Whoever it is,

Just call them to mind.

Unconsciously name what are the qualities that that person has that you find beneficial,

Beautiful,

Admirable,

Attractive.

What is it about them that you would like to emulate?

And then thinking about some of those qualities,

Maybe the top two or three that you feel most important,

What of those qualities can you see in yourself?

How have you exemplified those qualities even in the smallest of ways,

Even 35 years ago,

Even if just for a moment?

Where have you expressed those same qualities?

Just a reaction of no,

No,

No,

No,

I'm not like that.

I can't do that or I have to work at it.

Quiet the chatter and instead appreciate and acknowledge what is true,

What you have done,

What you have experienced,

What you have shared.

See how you are already living up to the legacy of this person you admire.

You also already embody some of these qualities.

Allow yourself to really be in that and feel yourself and that figure you admire as one.

Know that you can go through your day reminding yourself of this figure and those qualities,

Inviting it in,

Expressing it.

One of my favorite practices is to do sort of a daily hello to just in my mind's eye wave hello to that figure that I would like to embody some of their qualities to just remind myself of that person of why I admire them and of course what I already do that is similar.

You have all of the goodness in the world living inside of you and we can choose to express it.

Let's breathe in,

Exhale completely and slowly return to the space around you,

Opening your eyes.

Thank you so much for practicing with me.

Namaste.
