We are creatures that rely so heavily on our minds,
Constantly asking it to think and to problem solve.
So in this everyday mindfulness technique,
I want you to start asking the body.
Now you can do this in one of two ways.
You can ask random body parts.
So just take a moment,
Close your eyes if that feels good,
Depending on where you are.
Because remember,
All of these techniques can be done anywhere,
Anytime,
Anyplace,
Just to bring you back to the present,
To bring you back some clarity of mind.
So yes,
You can ask random pieces at any time.
It could be,
How are my ankles doing?
How is my shoulders doing?
How is my chin doing?
How are my eyeballs doing?
It doesn't matter how obscure.
Just ask random body parts and listen for the answer.
Or you can do something a bit more structured,
Which I prefer,
Particularly as when I get distracted,
I like to know where I was on the body.
So I use a kind of a more structured body scan,
Starting at the toes,
Going up through the feet and the ankles,
Through the shins and calves,
To the knees and the legs,
The hips and up through the body.
And I just ask each body part,
What do you need right now?
And when you get an answer from it,
Do it either in the moment or immediately after your mindful moment.
That could be going to get a glass of water if you felt thirsty.
It could be stretching if your shoulders and arms feel really tight.
Allow the answers from your body,
Honour the answers from your body and go and do them.
