Hello,
Thank you for joining me.
So for this practice you're going to need to have an object that you can hold and pass from one hand to the other.
So pause this now if you need to,
Go find that object and then come back and join me.
So with that object starting in your left hand,
I want you to gently pass it to your right hand from palm to palm,
Passing it between your right and left hand.
What I want you to make sure you're doing is passing it across your midline.
Okay,
So if we were to draw a line from the top of your head down to the end of your body,
There would be a centre line coming down through your nose,
Splitting both eyes,
Halfway through your lips,
You get the point.
So you want to make sure that as you pass that object from side to side,
You're crossing that midline.
And just keep going,
Find a rhythm that works for you today.
You may be able to hear mine in the background.
And you just keep that rhythm going.
Some days it might be fast,
Some days it might be slow.
And if you do happen to drop your object,
That's okay,
Just pick it up and start again.
And similarly,
If you're passing it backwards and forwards,
And then your mind gets distracted and you lose your rhythm,
Notice that you're distracted and come back to passing that object from the right to the left hand across your midline.
Keep going.
The reason we do this is something called bilateral stimulation.
We want to activate both hemispheres of the brain in a rhythm,
Alternating from left to right across that midline.
And obviously watching the object as it passes from one hand to the other creates a pattern in your brainwaves or in your mind that just helps to stimulate both sides of your brain and provides a little bit of focus and clarity and helps to move your nervous system back up to ventral vagal,
Which is where we're calm and connected.
So well done,
You've been doing this really well.
I know you will have got distracted,
But you keep coming back.
I'm very proud of you.
Let's just go for another few seconds,
Just passing it back and forth,
Noticing how it feels in your hands,
Noticing how it feels in your shoulders and neck.
Excellent.
Okay,
Just allow your hands to come to a still,
Place the object down if that feels supportive,
And just give yourself a moment to feel that sensation,
The slowing of the rhythm.
And take a few deep breaths.
Breathing in and out through the nose,
Noticing how your hands and arms feel.
Perfect.
Well done.
Now just allow your body to move in whatever way it needs,
Bringing yourself back into your space,
Stretching if that feels supportive,
And thank you for joining me.
I hope to see you again soon.
Have a beautiful day.
