This meditation is designed for moments of emotional pain, vulnerability, or inner strain. Rather than fixing or pushing discomfort away, you’re guided to soften toward what’s already here through validating, compassionate self-talk. Rooted in the gentle principles of When Self-Talk Is Medicine, this practice supports staying present with pain in a way that soothes the nervous system and builds emotional resilience. Acknowledgement becomes medicine, allowing healing to unfold without force. This is an informative, talk-style meditation that opens with the Wisdom of the Waves and gently closes with a single rhyming affirmation, supported by light emotive music. Helpful for emotional pain, overwhelm, anxiety, low mood, self-compassion, trauma-informed healing, nervous system calming, and getting through hard moments with gentleness.

For when it hurts,

Softening through self-acknowledgement.

Today's gentle message for this you here now is this,

When we take a step back,

Not to silence the mind but to see it softly.

We don't need to feel okay to treat ourselves with care.

Even in the middle of overwhelm,

When pain is sharp and the mind is loud,

We can still acknowledge ourselves and take baby steps forward.

Let's go to the wisdom of the waves for a dose of inspiration.

Living a human life is hard.

Some moments ache with intensity,

The breath shortens,

The heart races,

The thoughts scream and demand.

It's natural to want to shut it down,

Fix it fast or disappear,

Of course.

But here's a sacred truth,

You can stay.

Not to suffer anymore,

Hooked by the narrative of what these unhelpful thoughts tell you,

But to witness what's already there with gentle willingness.

You can say,

This hurts and I'm choosing to be with me right now.

And after that,

Maybe there's a space for one gentle step,

Not to rush the process but to honor it,

To acknowledge this you that is doing the best you can with what you have.

I know this sounds crazy,

Why would you ever want to acknowledge and honor something that hurts you the way it does?

My dear sweet soul,

Even when everything feels heavy,

If you choose not to force calm but to offer yourself choice,

Then when you are ready,

You can take one small kind step towards what matters.

A hand over your heart,

A walk outside,

A warm drink.

These small acts are not avoidance,

They are self-validation in motion.

Each moment you choose validating self-talk to guide yourself along the way with one small kind step towards what matters.

This is more than enough,

This is medicine,

It is everything.

And remember,

Each time you shift from harsh thoughts to a kinder response,

You activate the prefrontal cortex,

The part of your brain that helps you pause,

Reflect and respond,

And soothe the amygdala,

Which handles fear and reactivity.

This supports emotional balance and clearer choices that you so deeply deserve.

It reduces cortisol and boosts oxytocin,

Dopamine,

And serotonin,

Enhancing trust,

Motivation and mood.

Over time,

Your brain rewires for self-compassion and resilience.

Validating self-talk is your medicine.

Your nervous system begins to associate validating self-talk with safety,

Helping you stay grounded in future moments,

And so you continue to rewire your brain and deepen the connection to your soul.

Like holding your own hand through a difficult moment,

Your presence becomes the path,

And your next step becomes a soft landing.

I choose validating self-talk right now,

And as I do this,

I disengage from the automatic self-talk which usually doesn't serve me well.

I intentionally engage with validating self-talk which does.

I allow my mind to chatter regardless of the content of the thought,

And come back to the greater intelligence of who I am.

Even when everything feels heavy,

I can stay.

Not to force calm,

But to be present with myself.

Validating self-talk isn't pretending I'm okay,

Forcing positivity,

Or fixing myself with mantras that I don't believe.

It's not about denying pain,

But recognising this is hard,

And I'm staying with me anyway.

And when I'm ready,

One small kind step towards something meaningful,

No matter how small,

Is enough.

This is always a process.

It is always a practice.

We disconnect,

So that we can reconnect.

And so it is.

When pain is sharp and moments rough,

I choose myself,

And that's enough.

When pain is sharp and moments rough,

I choose myself,

And that's enough.

When pain is sharp and moments rough,

I choose myself,

And that's enough.

When pain is sharp and moments rough,

I choose myself,

And that's enough.

When pain is sharp and moments rough,

I choose myself,

And that's enough.

My pain is real I nurture me And I will heal And set me free And there’s always a song🤣 How do you do what you do to me I wish I knew If I knew how you do it to me I'd do it to you How do you do what you do to me I'm feeling blue Wish I knew how you do it to me But I haven't a clue You give me a feeling in my heart Like an arrow passing through it Suppose that you think you're very smart But won't you tell me how do you do it? Well we all know you are very smart, intuitive, sensitive, caring and compassionate. Thank you for sharing what you are and what you know. 🙏

Another very helpful track. I love Reuben's rhyming Affirmations. They are so catchy and easy to remember. So when tender feelings show up, I can say to myself: "when pain is sharp and moments rough, I choose myself and that's enough". Great stuff and thank you for sharing, Reuben.

How beautiful and comforting Reuben!! Every single time I sit with my pain it comforts me. I am learning not to force positivity nor accept it feeling I must have done something or behaved in a manner to deserve it. I would tell myself that it was all in my imagination. But no longer now, as I know there will always be someone who is always there with me no matter what. It makes me smile and I feel happy once again! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Forever, Tanusree ❤️💕
