Re-Label Your Memories

You have the power to decide what label you give to your memories, and you can change the label. Changing the label can lower the emotional intensity that was recorded along with the memory, and thus change the level of suffering that it contains. This lesson will explain it in more detail.

Transcript

All of our memories have a label that we've assigned to them,

And that label is a judgment about what it is,

And we can change the label.

And today I want you to think about a memory that was painful or difficult,

And those are the labels that maybe you put on it painful difficult,

Something like that.

And I would like you to relabel it as unimportant.

Because you know what?

It's unimportant right now.

What's important right now is right now.

And so that story and re-exposing yourself to pain or hurt,

You know,

Hurtful or upsetting,

Like re-exposing yourself to that over and over again,

We've already talked about reshaping the story as something that helped you learn or grow or become wiser.

So if it's still coming back as pain,

Or if you still have some remaining that have that label of painful or something,

Insulting,

Whatever,

I want you to intentionally label it as unimportant,

And that will free you.

See if that frees you.

And I want you to remember that you have the power to do that with anything,

Any memory,

Any time.

Call it unimportant.

And see what happens as far as the emotional intensity that it carries.

I think it's going to create a very big shift.

So that's the thing to play with now.

Do it a few times before you end this lesson and see what happens.

And then try it throughout your day once or twice,

Just if you have that opportunity.

Okay?

Play with it.
