Welcome to today's practice.
Today is about reclaiming yourself from the inner critic.
This is a space to listen inward,
Not to believe every voice you hear,
But to discover who you truly are beneath the noise of self-judgment.
And begin by taking a comfortable seat,
Finding a position where your spine can lengthen without strain,
Your sit bones grounded,
Your feet grounded,
Your shoulders soft,
Your head balanced easily above your heart,
Allow your hands to rest on your thighs or in your lap.
You might even let your palms turn upward,
A gesture of openness.
And when you're ready,
Let your eyes close or allow the eyes to soften downward.
Begin to feel the gentle pull of gravity through your body,
Allowing your bones to be heavy and your muscles to soften.
You are supported.
There's nowhere else to be and nothing to fix right now.
There's just this moment and just this breath.
Take a slow inhale through your nose and exhale softly through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale,
Exhale,
Each breath helping you settle a little deeper into presence.
And now begin to sense the inner landscape of your mind.
Notice what thoughts,
Sensations or emotions are present.
Don't chase or analyze them,
Just notice.
And somewhere in that space,
You may sense the voice of the inner critic,
That familiar judging,
Comparing,
Demanding voice.
It might say things like,
You're not doing enough.
You should be doing better by now.
You're getting it wrong.
Simply notice if that voice is here.
Where in your body do you feel it most strongly?
In your chest?
Your throat?
Your belly?
Your head?
Does it have a texture?
A tone?
A posture?
You don't have to push it away.
You're simply meeting it with awareness.
And gently saying inwardly,
I hear you.
Allow this to be an act of witnessing and not merging.
You might repeat silently,
I hear this voice,
But I am not this voice.
I sense this part,
But I am not this part.
Take another deep breath in and exhale slowly.
Now bring one hand to the place of the body where you feel the critic most strongly.
And with kindness and clarity,
Say inwardly,
I know you're trying to help me.
I know you've been trying to protect me.
But I don't need you to be so harsh.
Let your tone be both gentle and firm.
As if speaking to a child who's afraid but pretending to be tough.
Now imagine yourself taking one small step back from this voice.
You don't need to silence it,
You simply reclaim the space.
Let the voice be in front of you and your awareness behind it.
You are the one who observes,
The one who feels,
The one who breathes.
You are the awareness behind the words.
Inhale.
Exhale.
I am not this voice.
Repeat softly within.
I am not the one who attacks me.
I am the one who listens.
I am the one who learns.
I am the one who loves.
Let these words flow through you like warm light softening a hard edge.
Imagine this voice stepping aside,
This critical part stepping aside.
Not disappearing,
Just resting.
Maybe you picture it sitting in a nearby chair or standing off to the side.
You are seated at the center of your being.
Rooted,
Calm and compassionate.
Feel this version of you.
Notice what it feels like in your body to sit here.
Maybe more space in your chest.
More length in your spine.
More warmth in your belly.
This is you.
Not the voice of fear,
But the steady self that remains.
Now bring your attention to the space between you and that voice.
There is distance now,
A clear boundary.
If it helps,
Imagine a soft veil between you or a stream of light separating truth from noise.
You are not rejecting this part,
You are simply reclaiming your center.
Say quietly inside,
Thank you for trying to protect me.
But I lead from love now.
From clarity.
From truth.
Let that intention vibrate gently through your whole system.
Come back to your breath.
Let it flow easily through your body.
Each inhale returning to yourself.
Each exhale releasing what is not you.
You might repeat silently for a few cycles.
Inhale,
I return to myself.
Exhale,
I release what is not me.
Now sense what has shifted.
Notice the energy in your spine.
The spaciousness in your chest.
The tone of your inner world.
There is more room now.
More choice.
The inner critic may visit again,
Of course.
But now you know you are not it.
And you can listen without losing yourself.
Let's close today's practice with three soft grounding breaths.
Inhaling through the nose.
Exhaling through the mouth.
Again inhale.
Exhale.
One last time inhale.
Exhale.
Now feel your seat beneath you.
Your spine tall and free.
Your heart open.
Gently move your fingers and shoulders.
And when you are ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Take a moment to notice you are back in your body.
Back in your center.
Back in your truth.
You are not your critic.
You are the one who knows how to return home.
Thank you.
