Hello and welcome.
Go ahead and begin to set up your space.
When you're ready to,
You'll sit cross-legged,
Maybe lighting a candle,
Closing the eyes.
Or if you're more comfortable lying down,
You can do that too.
As you get settled,
Remember that everything in the universe is energy in motion,
And your body is no exception to that.
At a subatomic level,
Your cells are not solid matter.
They are vibrating fields of electromagnetic activity,
Which are constantly broadcasting and receiving information.
The heart alone generates an electromagnetic field that's measurable to about three feet outside the body,
And it's actually detectable by sensitive instruments,
And many researchers believe by other living systems.
Distant Reiki works within the same understanding.
Rather than transmitting energy like a radio signal through space,
It operates more like a quantum entanglement,
This phenomenon in which two particles,
Once connected,
Respond to each other instantaneously regardless of the distance between them.
In Reiki,
The connection is established through intention.
The practitioner,
Me,
The recipient,
You,
We enter a shared field of awareness,
And within that field,
Healing energy moves,
Not despite the distance,
But indifferent to the distance.
And you don't even need to believe this fully for it to work.
You only need to be willing to receive.
So close your eyes,
Take one slow breath in through your nose,
Let it fall out through the mouth,
Released.
Bring your attention to the top of your head,
To the crown.
In Reiki we call this the Sahasrara,
The thousand-petaled lotus,
And right now,
As you hear these words,
I am placing my hands there with intention,
And you may feel nothing at all,
And you may feel warmth or tingling,
Like the first touch of sunlight on the skin.
Either is fine,
Trust that it is working regardless,
And just breathe awareness to the crown of your head,
Noticing any warmth at the top of your skull,
And if there is none,
Imagine it and know that imagination is the doorway through which energy travels.
Neuroscience tells us that the brain cannot fully distinguish between a vividly imagined sensation and a real one.
The same neural pathways light up,
The same neuropeptides are released.
When you imagine warmth,
Your body begins to create it,
And it's not magic,
Though it is undeniably miraculous.
Now let this warmth at the crown begin to move,
Slowly,
Like honey poured down,
Down through the center of your skull,
Behind your eyes,
Down the back of the throat,
And let it pool gently at the center of your chest.
Rest your awareness at the center of your chest,
And feel the weight of your own heartbeat.
If you'd like to,
You can even place a hand there,
And notice what you feel.
I am sending Reiki into this place now,
Into your heart,
Not to fix you,
You don't need fixing,
But to remind that heart of its own intelligence,
And to bathe your heart,
The vagus nerve,
And the thousands of small messengers that run between the heart and the brain of this ancient conversation.
Breathe in,
Thinking I receive,
And breathe out,
Thinking I release what I no longer need.
And just stay here as the words hold you.
You may start to feel a slight pressure,
A growing warmth.
The heart is not just a pump,
It is,
Like I mentioned,
The most electromagnetically powerful organ of your human body.
Its field extends outward in every direction,
It's a torus of living energy that surrounds you like a second skin,
And right now,
I'm working with that field,
Working on you,
From every angle,
All at once.
The front of the heart,
The chest that you show the world,
The part that leads when you walk into a room,
The part that takes the first blow when something breaks you.
I'm placing my hands here,
Now with intention,
And you may feel warmth,
Tingling,
Pressure,
Lightness.
And you might not feel anything at all,
And that is okay too.
Don't analyze,
Just tune in.
Some people hold their entire history here,
Old loves,
Old losses,
And the words that were said to them before they were old enough to have armor.
I want you to feel into the front of your chest right now and ask honestly,
What am I carrying here?
And know that you don't need to name it.
The heart already knows,
Just feel the weight and let the warmth that's circulating here now begin to move beneath it and work its way in like the first warmth of spring into frozen ground.
Now shift your awareness,
The back of the heart,
The part you cannot see,
The part you never think about.
Feel in between your shoulder blades,
This is where we store what we cannot face forward.
The grief we tucked away,
The anger we decided wasn't allowed,
The longing we were too proud to express or too afraid to admit.
The back of the heart is where the unexpressed lives.
And so I'm working here now,
I want you to imagine two hands pressing gently between your shoulder blades on either side of your spine,
Right at the level of the heart,
And you may feel your upper back begin to release,
Softening between the shoulder blades,
An area maybe you didn't even know you were clenching.
Breathe into that space.
And exhale here,
We're going to move into the sides of the heart,
The left and the right,
What we call the giving and the receiving,
Where we hold our relationships with others and with ourselves.
The left side is how much you give,
How freely,
How honestly,
Whether giving has left you hollow.
And the right side,
How much you allow yourself to receive,
The love,
The rest,
The support,
The goodness.
So I want you to take a breath into your left side,
Inhale.
Exhale.
And then into the right side,
Inhale.
And exhale.
And feel if one side is more open than the other.
It's just information for you.
And now the light,
I want you to imagine a warm golden light,
Maybe the color of late afternoon sun over the ocean.
It's beginning to pour in to the left heart,
The right heart,
The front of the heart,
The back of the heart.
It doesn't need to force its way in.
It just seeps in the way light seeps under a closed door,
The way warmth finds its way into a cold room.
And as this light moves through the chambers of your heart,
It illuminates what has been stored in the dark.
And here's what I want you to know.
It does not judge what it finds.
It doesn't recoil from the anger,
From the old stories,
From any shame.
It just touches it.
And where the light touches,
The grip begins to loosen.
Without needing to name anything,
Trust your old stories are starting to shift.
The ones you've told yourself for so long that you maybe forgot they were even stories are shifting.
You can feel them rising into the light like smoke from an extinguished candle.
They rise,
They thin,
They disperse.
They were never the truth of you anyway.
The anger,
Let it come up.
You don't need to perform peace here.
Real healing is not always soft.
Sometimes it flares before it frees.
So if there's heat in the chest,
Let it move.
Breathe it upward.
Let the light carry it through all the way up through the crown.
Breathe out.
And what remains after the light has done its work is something older than any of the stories.
It's something that was there before the first wound.
Open,
Steady,
And undiminished.
This is your heart.
Place both palms here now and breathe for a moment.
And now I'm going to seal this work in.
I want you to imagine my hands moving slow,
Clockwise circles over your heart space.
Smoothing the energy like pressing a letter closed before it is sent.
Front of the heart,
Over the back of the heart,
Over the left side of the heart.
And over the right side of the heart.
What has been opened is now held.
What has been released is now gone.
What remains is protected,
Tended,
And it's yours.
Placing a final hand at the center of your chest.
A pause,
A witness,
A seal.
Take a deep breath.
Namaste.
Namaste.
