This week’s short guidance considers the short poem, The Hummingbird. How may four lines of poetry help us consider the world and ourselves differently? A short reading and guided practice offer some insights.

Transcript

Ah yeah,

Welcome to the suites.

Short guided practice and I'd like to sort of share a few words from a small book.

For a short poem.

A four-line poem.

In a few moments and I will hopefully help.

Yeah,

Continue the conversation that we have,

That we're having here around words and around how those can be used or these words can be perceived often in poetry.

To help us think a little bit more differently about the world that we are in and how we perceive ourselves.

The connection between those two things.

Yeah,

To kind of support and.

.

.

Help with a greater mindful state or greater awareness of the present moment.

Yeah,

And there are benefits that can come from that,

Right,

So how we can feel better.

We can notice things more clearly,

How we can connect better.

More productively.

With people around us.

Yeah,

So more on that in a few moments but just encouraging.

Perhaps soon.

It's his customary to take a few moments to arrive,

See if it's faster to leave.

Some of the stuff that we've been thinking about,

We've been pondering.

Just leave that.

At the door.

For a few moments,

Come back to that later if we need to.

Yeah,

And closing your eyes if that feels okay.

Which we are arriving.

Nothing noticing the feet on the floor.

Bones,

Seat,

Hands resting.

Perhaps a few deeper breaths.

For breathing out.

Perhaps it's possible to feel a sense of settling,

Sinking into the posture we've chosen.

Let's see now,

Shoot,

Live in practice,

Landed practice.

Slide away,

Coming back to the screen in your own time.

Yeah,

So this poem is a poem by Rudy Francisco.

I'll read this a couple of times.

And then at the end of our short guided practice so this is called the hummingbird.

The hummingbird does not look back at the flower.

It just drank from.

It is already tasting the scallop.

The hummingbird does not look back at the flower.

It just transformed.

Which is already tasting the sky.

Yeah,

So.

Short poem but a lot in there isn't there and I just invite us to Invite this into a short practice as well.

I'll say a few things.

Few ways of guidance as we kind of do.

Spend some time together over the next couple of minutes.

Again if it feels okay,

Perhaps closing the eyes.

Suffering the gaze.

And seeing what's coming up for you perhaps what's arriving with regards to those words what you're noticing anything particularly that made sense,

That was interesting,

That you liked,

Perhaps you didn't like so much.

In that short.

Stanza Yeah,

But perhaps.

.

.

Rotation.

With those words from those words is around the ability to Yeah,

Not to.

Always be looking back.

Or things that have happened.

Things we perhaps could have done differently or perhaps we think we could have done better.

And often these thoughts that we may have in that space are helpful or unproductive,

Self-defeating or overly critical.

If we can think about more about the sky the hummingbird reaching into the sky and being aware of where it is what it's doing,

How it's feeling.

There's so much more energy we can gain from that.

Yeah,

Maybe that.

We need to look back at some point,

But.

.

.

Continual,

Worrying,

Repetitive thoughts.

That aren't.

Assisting.

I'm actually debilitating him,

So I'm not helpful.

So perhaps taking a pause allows us to Notice after a short while.

The best thing to do,

The best path to take,

The best thoughts to consider.

None of them being carried away.

By negative energy that may unite sometimes.

Plays part.

See if we can be a little bit like the hummingbird now.

You're not alone.

Awareness.

Reaching for the sky,

Being in the sky and not looking back.

Looking back.

At the moment,

Not looking back,

In this manner.

The Hummingbird does not look back at the flower it just drank from.

It is already tasting the sky.

Yeah.

Yes,

I thank you for.

.

.

Spending this short time with me.

I hope you found that supportive and that you have good weeks and look forward to seeing you.

Pro Fata.

Guided practice meditation.

Bye for now.
