Hello,
Friend.
If you've been carrying stress in your shoulders,
Tension in your chest,
Or pressure in your mind,
This practice is for you.
Today,
We're exploring something simple,
Powerful,
And honestly,
A little underrated,
Laughing breathwork.
Before your brain immediately says,
This sounds ridiculous,
Stick with me,
Because this practice is not about pretending life is perfect.
It's not forced positivity,
And it's definitely not about becoming a different person overnight.
This is about helping your nervous system remember what safety feels like.
Research has shown that intentional laughter and rhythmic breathing can lower stress hormones,
Increase oxygen flow,
Improve mood,
And activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
This is the part of your body that is responsible for rest,
Recovery,
And emotional regulation.
In other words,
Sometimes the fastest way out of overwhelm is through the body.
Not more overthinking,
Not another productivity hack,
Not trying to mindset your way into peace.
Just breathe,
Movement,
Release.
And something else happens during practices like this.
We soften.
The version of you that has been performing competence all day gets to exhale for a minute.
We're going to laugh a little,
Breathe deeply,
Release tension,
And reconnect with the version of you underneath all the stress.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable position.
You can sit upright with your feet on the floor or lie down if that feels better for your body.
Let your hands rest naturally.
Before we do anything else,
I want you to notice how you arrived here,
Meaning notice your energy,
Notice your thoughts,
Notice the pace your body is moving at internally.
No judgment,
Just awareness.
If you'd like to close your eyes,
Feel free to do so.
Otherwise,
Let's start with a slow breath in through our noses.
And exhale gently through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale deeply and exhale slowly.
Let your shoulders soften.
Unclench your jaw.
Relax the muscles around your eyes.
You don't need to hold yourself together so tightly right now.
You are safe here.
Now bring your awareness to your breath.
No need to change it yet.
Just observe the inhale,
The exhale,
The rise and fall of your chest or belly.
As you continue breathing,
Imagine your nervous system slowly receiving the message,
It's time to pause for just a moment.
Gently,
Bring a small smile to your face as if your inner imp has a secret.
We're not performing.
We're not forcing happiness.
This is just a small softening,
A signal,
A shift.
Your body is always listening to the messages you send it.
And the message now is no danger,
No pressure,
Just softness,
Playfulness,
And breath.
Take a deep inhale through your nose and exhale with a soft,
Ah,
Again,
Inhale and exhale,
Ah.
One more time.
Inhale deeply and exhale,
Ah,
Excellent.
Let's allow the sound to repeat gently.
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
It's slow,
It's rhythmic,
And you don't have to sound a certain way.
Again,
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Notice how your belly begins to move differently and how your exhale naturally lengthens.
This part is important.
A longer exhale helps activate our relaxation response.
We shift naturally from survival mode into balance.
We're not forcing.
We're just doing this through breath and sound.
Let's get the laughter to grow slightly.
Maybe it becomes inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Or maybe you have a real laugh now.
Does it feel awkward?
Okay.
That means you're interrupting old patterns.
Healing sometimes sounds like laughter.
So let's keep breathing and laughing gently.
Inhale and ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
I can't help but start to giggle when I'm doing this.
I don't know if you are too.
It starts to happen for me naturally.
And my chest is starting to loosen,
And my stomach is moving,
And my energy is shifting.
Let's do this a few more times.
Inhale and exhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Again.
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Imagine your stress leaving with every sound you're making.
Now,
Bring one hand to your chest and one to your stomach.
Feel the warmth of your body.
Feel the movement of your breath.
Notice what has changed.
Even if it's really subtle.
Let's breathe again with our new laughter.
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Exhale.
The next time,
Let's connect the ha's together.
So they're running together.
So inhale and ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
It makes me happy.
Notice how the laughter starts to fade naturally.
Again.
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Let's do it again.
Inhale and ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Again.
Inhale,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Oh,
We're inhaling.
Calm.
And we're exhaling tension.
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Again.
Inhaling.
Calm.
Exhaling.
Tension.
Again.
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Oh,
Let's do that one more time.
Inhaling.
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha,
Ha.
Ah.
You can probably hear the difference between when I'm focusing on creating the ha and when I'm actually just laughing.
And notice the contrast between when we started just a few minutes ago and now.
Do you feel more relaxed?
Do you feel a little giddy or silly?
If you do,
Lovely.
Practices like this matter because life becomes easier.
Our nervous system stops treating every moment like an emergency.
And eventually,
Calm is something you trust yourself to return to.
Now,
Let's just take a deep breath without a laugh.
So,
Inhale deeply and let it go completely.
Now,
Repeat silently.
I am allowed to feel lighter.
I do not need to earn rest.
Joy fills my body.
Let's bring our awareness back to the room.
Notice the surface beneath you.
And the air on your skin.
Take one final intentional inhale,
Filling our lungs completely.
And exhale with one last gentle laugh.
Ah.
I'm glad you are here with me today and willing to try something different.
Healing sometimes looks like deep silliness.
And sometimes healing sounds like laughter echoing through your room while your nervous system relaxes.
This is beautiful.
And if this helped you today,
I want to hear how it felt for you.
Did your body soften?
Did your mood shift?
Did anything surprise you about this?
You don't have to do it perfectly.
You just need to keep showing up for yourself.
And I'll be here with a smile on my face when you do.
