Foundations In Ancient Philosophies
The historic texts and traditions of yoga and meditation established that achieving happiness is our most serious challenge in life. Much of the issue rests within our own minds. Dealing with our mental states and issues, in order to bring calmness and equanimity to our being, is a common theme. We are essentially the same as the ancient people living long ago. But in our case today, our stress triggers and mental challenges are a consequence of technology, lifestyle, and culture.

The Nature Of The Mind
As noted earlier, it’s all about the mind. Our minds are very busy with a deluge of thoughts, most of which are meaningless, and our awareness is seemingly on autopilot, missing much of life as it flows by. We will present a view of the mind, the components of awareness and how these blend into our experience and perceptions. We will conclude this session with a spacial awareness meditation with instrumental music.

Sukha Or Dukha (Happiness Is A Choice)
In this lesson, we will discuss the energy of thoughts, feelings, and emotions and how our attitude factors in. In fact, our attitude is a key ingredient of happiness. Life happens whether we are happy or not. It’s our relationship to what happens and how we process situations that determines a positive versus a negative experience. How to examine and shift our attitude is the key point of this lesson. A positive affirmation and gong meditation will end the session.

You may not have realized it, but you are practicing right now! We are practicing mentally each moment of our lives. We will explain what we mean and what is the nature of practice. Lesson 7
Ingestion As A Spiritual Practice
We think of ingestion as the process of assimilation of the food we eat. In this lesson, we expand the definition of ingestion to include all five of our senses. As energetic beings, we ingest through all of our senses, through our skin, what we see, hear, taste, and smell. All sensations are sensory data that we ingest and, like it or not, become us. The importance of ingestion relative to our happiness is presented and concluded with a contemplation.

Living Life On Purpose With Purpose
Connecting to our real purpose that is anchored to our true nature brings richness and authentic focus to our lives. Finding and expressing our real purpose can be a challenge due to all our many years of living under a veil which distorts our view and restricts our connection. In this section, we will discuss how our purpose, or dharma, is related to health, happiness, and longevity. We will close this lesson with an instrumental parable on letting go.

Is Being Present Enough?
Being present is almost a household phrase these days. It means the basics of mindfulness are becoming broadly accepted or at least understood. In this section, we pose the question of whether being present is enough? In our opinion, being present does contribute toward happiness, but if we uplift the present moment, we will elevate and magnify our happiness and expand happiness to others. We conclude this lesson with an instrumental guided practice.

To Be Happy Is Both A Decision & A Practice
Now armed with the previous nine lessons, you have the foundation and the tools to be happy. The choice is yours - that’s the ultimate empowerment. Each of us has the power to shift our experiences and create happiness for ourselves. This lesson and the course concludes with a meditative poem, plus a guided imagery meditation with instrumental music.
