Today's meditation is inspired by that wonderful poem that was read at Joe Biden's inauguration.
It was so inspiring and inspirational that I had to use it for a meditation.
So go and find somewhere comfortable and we'll get started.
So I don't know if you saw that incredible moment during the inauguration ceremony when that young poet Amanda Gorman read this incredible poem that she'd written called The Hill We Climb.
And I don't know if it's because of the moment that we're living in but it really struck a chord with me about kind of looking ahead and making change and being positive that good times are around the corner.
So for this meditation I will be reading just an abridged version,
The beginning and the end.
And I will be reading it three times.
So we will get ourselves into a rhythm.
I will read the poem to you,
Leave you for a few moments,
Read it again,
Again leave you for a few moments and read it again at the end.
And what I'm trying to sort of show you with this is that you don't always have to have silence or you know not be reading anything or have anything read to you.
And actually when you're in a quiet space and your mind is calm it's really nice sometimes to have something to inspire you and guide you.
So we will be using the poem and just see what the experience is for you.
Do things come to mind?
Do emotions rise?
And remember everything is without judgment.
So get yourself somewhere comfortable and sitting up really nice and tall and if you're ready just close your eyes and bring your hands down to a comfortable position in your lap.
And just taking these first few moments just to make that transition from whatever you've been doing today to this quiet and calm still place of meditation.
And don't worry if thoughts come into your mind they probably will today because we're using these words that might bring emotions or memories or images to mind.
We let everything just come and we observe them and just notice the experience that we're having.
So let's start to connect inwards now with our breath.
And just begin to feel that rise and fall of your unique breath in this moment.
And let's take two deep breaths together so breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
And again.
And now closing your mouth and beginning to breathe in and out through your nose.
Just letting any distractions or sounds or thoughts just fade to the background.
Everything can wait.
This time for you.
So begin to find some softness within your body.
As you settle and relax in to your practice.
So just remembering to just allow whatever experience occurs for you to happen without judgment.
When day comes we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never ending shade.
The loss we carry a sea we must wade.
We've braved the belly of the beast.
We've learned that quiet isn't always peace.
And the norms and notions of what just is isn't always justice.
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it.
Somehow we do it.
When day comes we step out of the shade.
A flame and unafraid.
The new dawn blooms as we free it.
For there is always light.
If only we're brave enough to see it.
If only we're brave enough to be it.
When day comes we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never ending shade.
The loss we carry a sea we must wade.
We've braved the belly of the beast.
We've learned that quiet isn't always peace and the norms and notions of what just is isn't always justice.
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it.
Somehow we do it.
When day comes we step out of the shade.
The new dawn blooms as we free it.
For there is always light.
If only we're brave enough to see it.
If only we're brave enough to be it.
So just taking these next few moments to allow your practice to be absorbed into your body and mind.
Allowing those words from the poem to sink in.
Just notice how you feel.
Just bring your attention back to your breaths these last few moments really breathing as deep as you can filling the lungs and as you breathe out just finding some softness in your muscles releasing any tension.
And just slowly allowing any tiny movements in your body wiggling fingers and toes stretching out.
Just feeling your body move.
Allowing your breath to return to a comfortable rhythm and flow for you.
And then bringing your hands together giving the hands a little bit of a rub to create some warmth and some heat.
I'm just hovering the hands over your eyes.
Blinking your eyes open inside your hands when you're ready and bringing your hands down away from your face and I'm here.
And that poem is called The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman and I just simply took the beginning and the end and put them together.
I hope she wouldn't mind and that kind of gave me a nice inspiration for a morning meditation or if you're looking for a meditation around fresh starts and hope new beginnings and I hope that it was a useful addition to your day and I look forward to speaking to you again very soon.
Bye for now.
I hope you enjoyed it and if you did please subscribe to be something new.
