Hello and welcome.
My name is Lew Redman and today I'm going to talk about how to design your rich life.
Now this is all inspired and learned from Ramit Sethi who has a fantastic book called I Will Teach You To Be Rich.
Don't love the title,
Good stuff in the book.
He has a Netflix show now out,
How To Get Rich.
Titles can be a little clickbaity but really sound and solid stuff and advice and practices that he gives.
And one of his thing is to design your rich life.
And that doesn't matter how much money you have in the bank,
That you get to choose the things that you value.
And his methodology or his philosophy is to spend generously on the things that you love or that make you feel expansive and to cut back mercilessly on the things that don't fill you.
For example,
I love spending a lot of money on self-growth type of things and practices and workshops and retreats and those things really fill me.
I don't spend a lot of money on clothes because that's just not what I value.
Now,
If you value really designer shoes,
Then that is your rich life.
But a rich life doesn't have to be just in these kind of main pockets of where we would spend money.
There could be these little things that we do or that we decide rather than being someone who just cuts back on everything all the time or tries to find the cheapest thing for everything.
We say,
Well,
Where do I want to spend money?
What does a rich life look like for me?
So I'm just going to give you some examples of my rich life.
Maybe they'll inspire how this might show up for you.
And so something that is a huge rich life thing for me is I love buying coconut waters after a hot yoga class.
If you ever go to yoga studios,
Typically they'll sell,
You know,
Six or seven dollar coconut waters after class.
And there's something so freeing for me about being super sweaty and just saying,
Hey,
Throw this on my tab and feeling the refreshment of that coconut water.
It makes me feel like I have millions of dollars and it's only,
You know,
Seven bucks or so.
And I love it.
Another thing that I do is paying for parking if it's more convenient.
I decided that,
You know what,
Driving two blocks away,
Walking two blocks,
If there's a spot there and yeah,
It's going to cost a couple of bucks,
That just do it.
I can let go of needing to save a few bucks here and there.
Then that's part of my rich life.
Another thing I do is I don't worry about having to get everything on Black Friday.
I think there's a frenetic energy sometimes of,
Well,
If I want this thing or if I like something,
Like I like perfect bars,
Do I need to buy 10 because they're on sale on Black Friday?
Not really.
That's kind of overindulgence.
I like to buy things when I feel like I'm ready to have them or I'm wanting them rather than feeling like,
Oh,
Because it's a sale,
I'm going to get them all now.
And so with that,
I'll pay full price for something with the energy of,
I know this is the right time to buy it.
Another thing,
The thing that I spend generously on and don't really have a ceiling is coffee.
Now it's funny because I'm recording this during a time where I'm taking a break from coffee,
But normally in most times of the year I am drinking really good coffee and I don't think to look at the difference between $18,
$16,
$20 bags of coffee.
I have no budget when it comes to going to coffee shops.
I love coffee shops.
I love being there and the $4 or $5 I might spend on a coffee is more than worth it.
So that's part of my rich life.
And lastly,
For me,
Like I said,
I love investing in myself and my self growth and that doesn't really have a ceiling on it.
I think I see those things as an investment and I also love generously donating to causes that I feel are really aligned in doing the work of spirit and something greater.
So that's a few examples.
Maybe that gives you an idea of what your rich life might look like,
But this is just a little introduction really to Ramit's work and I would highly recommend if you're interested in understanding this more to check out Ramit Sethi,
S-E-T-H-I,
And he can explain this a whole slew better than I can,
But maybe that's a nice introduction if this is your first time hearing this concept.
So thanks for being here and I look forward to connecting with you soon.
And if you're listening to this on Insight Timer,
I have a few different practices around money,
Some free,
Some premium.
And so go check that out or connect with me at Lose Circle where you get to see new practices and courses that I might release here.
So looking forward to sharing more with you soon.
