Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.
Oh it's a bit of a gloomy old evening here on Dartmoor.
You might be able to hear the bird song behind me which is wonderful to hear.
It's a bit of brightness in a rather grey evening.
I've just climbed down over a stream,
Plodded through it or splashed through it with my Wellington boots,
Disturbed a Dartmoor pony with her foal and I've clambered up now to a footpath paused just to speak to you and I'm just above the stream now looking down on it and on the trees which are covered in a beautiful green lichen.
It obviously shows that the air here is really beautifully clean and as I breathe in I can really feel that in my lungs.
Today is a little reflection on the power of thought and the power of wisdom in the moment and it came about when I spoke to a client and she reminded me of this and this is what I want to remind you of today.
She told me about an aeroplane journey she went on.
It was a long long trek and it was something she was not happy about doing on her own but she did it all on her own.
She planned it,
She went on the journey on her own and she felt claustrophobic in aeroplanes and didn't much like flying but she did it anyway and she explained that one of the things that had really supported her during this trip was understanding the nature of thought and she understood not just the nature of thought but the power of wisdom in the moment.
When you realise both of these things you are set up for life and let me explain what she saw and I'll explain how I see it for me.
What she saw is that when she got lost in worst case scenarios,
Things like what if my plane is late and I miss my connection,
What if I lose my passport,
What if my luggage gets lost,
What if I can't find my way at the other end to the place I need to get to.
All of these what ifs started to pile up in her mind as she was travelling.
She realised though the power of thought and thought is a beautiful gift when you use its power in the way it's designed it can be so helpful but when you let it go wild well it just creates scenarios that quite frankly are often very frightening and if you don't realise what's going on you believe that something catastrophic is about to happen.
But she knew what was going on so every time a story erupted in her,
Something that was scary,
She brought herself back and she was like it's just thought and in this moment I'm okay.
That was her little mantra as she was travelling it's just thought and in this moment I'm okay.
And in a way that sums up the philosophy that I'm sharing with you which is the recognition of thought,
This powerful gift we have.
It was a gift she'd used to plan her journey,
To understand visas,
To understand how she was going to finance herself,
She'd use it to pack a case,
To plan what she's going to do at the other end,
She'd used it to book accommodation,
She'd used her thought to organise the trip.
It was a brilliant tool but she also knew not to use thought when it started to scare her.
That was when it was getting out of control and the bit she really understood and I just want to spend a bit of moment on it today and we touched on this yesterday was trusting wisdom in the moment.
When you realise that you will know what to do in any one moment to the best of your ability,
It takes a lot of thinking out the picture.
It means you don't have to waste so much energy on trying to work out every single possible scenario that might occur.
I'm writing a book at the moment and I've got to the stage now where I'm pretty happy that it's taken the shape that it's going to be when it's published and I'm feeling a little bit stuck in so much as I don't really remember or understand the next part of the process.
I don't actually know if I've got enough money to fund the next part of the process but I know for sure that I will work it out.
So I've identified someone who's going to read it for me,
I've identified someone who's going to create some illustrations,
I'm going to have a conversation with different people along the way to work out the best way to get it published.
I know that I don't know the whole journey at the moment but every time I reach a little hurdle I'll find the answer,
I'll find a way to move forward.
Today is just a reminder of the power of thought to be a gift and the power of wisdom in the moment that you will know what to do in the moment when it happens.
When you team these two up,
The power of thought and the wisdom in the moment,
You are unstoppable and unbeatable because when you understand you don't need to work out every scenario and plan your life with a plan A,
B,
C or D.
When you know that wisdom will be there in the moment to support you and when you use the gift of thought correctly it too will support you then you've got a winning team on your side.
I hope you've enjoyed today's five minutes in nature.
I'd love to know what you make of the power of thought and the power of wisdom in the moment.
What do you make of that in your life?
If you've got any questions or reflections let me know and I'll be here again tomorrow with another five minutes in nature.
