Hello and welcome to 5 minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.
Walking along a path in Exeter.
I'm back helping to look after my mum today.
And this is the path that is a footpath with trees overhanging and I am walking in the evening in a wonderful evening sunshine where everything feels coolish but not cold.
And if you remember,
I've been reflecting on the three principles over the last few days.
And if you're new to this,
Then just take a little listen back to the principles of mind,
Of consciousness,
And of thought.
And on the first day,
Which was four days ago,
I talked about the three principles and what they were and where they came from.
And I just recommend you have a little listen to those if you're curious.
But today I wanted to explain how it all comes together in my life and why the three principles are such a helpful understanding.
So what I find with the three principles,
Which is so different from everything that I've looked at before when it comes to personal development,
Is that the three principles give me an understanding of how life works.
It helps me see how life works.
And if I summarize it,
I see that there is this wisdom,
Which is mind,
And intelligence behind the system of being human that is ever-present.
And this ever-present energy is what we are made of,
You,
Me,
And everybody on the planet.
All made from this loving,
Wise energy.
So when I know that to be true,
When I know that to be true for me,
That is the place I always look when I find myself getting lost or unsettled in life.
So knowing it's there,
Knowing it's not something I have to believe in,
Knowing it's not something I need to generate for myself or motivate myself with,
Instead just knowing that I am made of spiritual energy and everybody else is too.
Well,
That changes the way I walk through the world.
It doesn't feel so frightening because that is my baseline.
So that's the first impact it has on me,
And that is an incredibly important impact for me in my life.
The second impact is combining the role of the principle of consciousness and the principle of thought.
If you remember,
The principle of thought is the way that we interpret the world.
It's not just talking about the thinking that we have in our head.
The whole world that we experience as a human being is created through our perceptions,
Senses,
Sight,
Sound,
Taste.
We create the world we see physically and we also,
Through the power of thought,
Create our internal world,
The past,
The future,
Concerns,
Our memories.
We use thought in the capacity,
It's a brilliant gift and tool,
And thought is the agent that runs our life as human beings.
It's really helpful to see it,
Having an effect in our world.
And consciousness is the element that brings thought alive.
So when I feel unsettled or I feel low,
And I shine my light of consciousness on that,
Then that exacerbates it,
Fuels it,
And I feel even more unsettled than low.
And if instead I look within me for that wisdom,
For mind,
For that sense of peace and love,
Well,
That consciousness beam of light brings my awareness there,
Then well,
That's what I'm going to feel.
So for me,
Combining the principles of mind,
Consciousness and thought just gives me a really accurate template of how to navigate life as a human being.
Ultimately,
I know that when I get unsettled in thought,
The temptation I used to have as a human was to try to fix that thinking.
But all that did is the more attention I put on it,
The bigger it got.
It was like putting petrol on a fire to try and extinguish it.
It doesn't work.
If you want to extinguish a fire,
Well,
A fire will go out so long as you do not give it additional fuel.
And that's what it is like with thought.
Or thinking to settle your unsettled thoughts or your mood to pass,
Don't fuel it.
Don't shine your light of consciousness on it.
But ultimately,
The thing to know,
And when I knew this and saw this,
It was like coming home,
Is to realize that you are made of the essence of life itself,
And no one can take that away from you.
Let me know your reflections on the three principles and whether or not you're curious to know more or whether this is something that you have already come across in your life.
As always,
I love to hear from you.
And don't forget,
I'll be back again tomorrow with another five minutes in nature.
