Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me,
Liz Scott.
You know,
Today I want to talk about those special moments,
Those really priceless,
Special little moments in your day that might just pass you by unless you make the effort and time to reflect on them and be present to them.
What do I mean?
Well,
I was out walking with my husband today up on Dartmoor and there's a granite bench that we sat on and we were sitting down on the bench overlooking the view.
When suddenly out of the bushes behind us there was a crash and a black Labrador leapt out and started to get very excited around us and was quickly followed by her owner who was very apologetic he was out running and then we realized in an instant because this all happened like in about a second that the black Labrador was the Labrador that I take out walking in the village when they get a bit stuck for a dog walker.
And in that moment of joy,
She'd obviously seen or heard me,
And she'd come to say hello.
And she was bouncing around with absolute joy,
Saying hello.
Laughing and smiling and so were we at this joyful dog and it was just this most priceless precious moment that I wish I could bottle up and just keep sipping from as the day goes by because it was so wonderful.
And you know it's those little moments I think that bring me such incredible joy.
I was also today purchasing some technical equipment because I'm looking to create some little videos in the future And I'm not very inspired at going on to computers and working out the technical spec and what I need to get and Pricing and all of that thing so it was it's not my favorite kind of work.
I've got to say so I had spent a morning doing doing that and Felt like I just need to get out I need to get some fresh air and my husband came out for a walk with me And as we sat on the bench we also just observed that you know this area that we live in Dartmouth is very beautiful It's very stark and in many ways quite bleak landscape,
There's not a lot in it.
And there's not a lot of diversity of wildlife here because it's so heavily farmed by sheep and raised by cows and horses.
And we were just looking out over the bench and then we went on our walk and I just voiced how strongly I feel about restoring nature and giving nature a fighting chance in our world.
When who should we come across but two ladies who were wandering around in yellow jackets and we stopped to talk to them and lo and behold They were monitoring the land and looking to rewild it in some way.
They had bought the land and they were planning to monitor it over the coming years so they can see what changes are going to happen in the landscape.
So there I was on this walk,
Two things happened,
The joyful Labrador,
Which was probably my favourite moment of the day,
And then meeting these two women who were monitoring the land and were about to ensure that some form of nature restoration was going to be taking place.
I just felt like,
Do you know what?
Each of these tiny things brings me hope.
There is hope in the world and there are things that are going on in the world,
Even though sometimes I think it's looks very bleak actually that's not that's not true there are people in the world that are making a difference so today is all about those precious little moments those moments that maybe bring you joy that would just pass you by if you hadn't quite captured them but also it's recognizing that there are small things that happen that maybe feel so minute in the big picture but they are still happening and today it was a reminder for me to notice those smaller things,
To bring my attention to them,
To be aware of them.
And for me as well,
It's a reminder that when I turn up and I share with you,
For example,
Here,
Or when I turn up and I'm a listening ear for a friend or a family member,
Or I go and look after my mum or help out,
These tiny little acts are cumulative in the world.
And compassion and gratitude.
When I get in touch with that and release that into the world,
Well,
It does make a difference,
However small it might seem.
So let me know your reflections on that,
Those little moments of joy.
Have you had one today that you want to almost like pocket and savour?
And what are those small acts that are taking place around you,
All that you are participating in yourself,
That are making a difference,
Albeit that it might seem just a small difference?
Reflections and don't forget to join me again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
