Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott and it's another cold day,
Beautifully warm sunshine,
Beautifully warm blue sky but a bitterly cold easterly wind that sweeps across Dartmoor and I've been walking into that wind,
Digging my hands deeply into my pockets and finding a little bit of shelter which is where I am right now to talk to you and I can just see ahead of me two ewes,
Two mother sheep and one lamb and I can hear a baby lamb bleating away,
Obviously lost its mum I would imagine and that's often what happens up here on Dartmoor,
The lambs go wandering off in a different direction to their mums and then they have to bleat their way back to find their mums.
You know today I want to reflect on something which is super important as human beings,
It's a realisation really that we just get lost in thought and thinking and it's okay and I've just come off a phone call with a client and she was lost in thought and thinking about the way that she was communicating with some people at work and usually as a coach I'm really rock solid in bringing her back to that place of wisdom,
Of intuition,
That place of clarity and on this occasion I got lost in her story too,
I kind of got lost in the weeds as I put it and when I came off the call I felt this real sense of annoyance and frustration that I had got lost in her story rather than bringing her back,
Bringing her back to who she truly is,
I had got lost in believing her story about what was difficult and had tried to fix the story rather than bring her back to that sense of clarity that she's got within her and when I noticed what I'd done as a coach I got frustrated at myself and began to doubt myself and my abilities and I too then began to go down this rabbit hole,
This thought trap that I wasn't any good as a coach and I had let her down and I was frustrated at myself and and do you know what it just felt like I was looping around a bit like she had been looping around in this kind of sense of oh I'm not good enough,
Why am I doing what I'm doing?
Now I'm telling you this because it's so super helpful to realize what goes on and it's rare that I get lost in a rabbit hole these days,
I usually notice when I'm going into one and when I go into one like I did today it doesn't take long for me to notice what's going on and then coming back out so I wrote my client a little note which is something that I found really helpful and I remember this quote which I'm going to share with you now which is a brilliant way for me to forgive myself and to come back to centre and the quote is from a chap called Jack Pransky and he says all we are is peace love and wisdom and the power to create the illusion that we're not all we are is peace love and wisdom and the power to create the illusion that we're not and in those moments for her and for me we got lost in the illusion that we weren't good enough and that we had a lack of confidence and we started to beat ourselves up however when you realize and notice what's going on and this is actually the bit I really want to share with you because we all get lost on occasions and habitual thought patterns that's often what happens but when we notice that and our feelings let us know for me today when I started feeling a bit down on myself and questioning myself and feeling a bit flat about the way I'd been as a coach in this particular with this particular client I absolutely knew not to trust those feelings they weren't telling me anything about who I was as a person the feelings were actually just telling me that I was getting lost down a rabbit hole and then I reminded myself all I am is peace love and wisdom and the power to create the illusion that I'm not and from that place I sent my client a message just summarizing some of the things I wish I'd said around reminding her of who she truly is and ultimately for me that is the crux of everything it's reminding people reminding myself of who we truly are and from that place when I'm in that settled place of clarity I find the way forward so today is all about a reminder of who you truly are and a reminder that we get lost as human beings and don't beat yourself up about getting lost in unsettled thoughts and feelings it happens from time to time and just remember that who you truly are at the core of your being is peace love and wisdom don't forget to join me again tomorrow I'm always here daily walking out in nature and reflecting with five minutes in nature
