Life is full of in-between spaces — those liminal moments that bridge one phase to the next. In today’s 5 Minutes in Nature, Liz pauses in the gentle shift between spring and summer, noticing how nature quietly transitions. It leads her to reflect on those times in life that exist between endings and beginnings. Are you in one of those in-between spaces right now? And if so, what does it feel like to be there?

Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott and you know whenever I get to June it always surprises me because it seems to arrive so quickly in my life and here we are with the days unbelievably long days long light days and short dark nights and whenever I get to June I am just amazed at the the lightness of the days and we're moving towards the the longest day the summer solstice and sometimes you know when we're in June it's it's kind of mixed weather so we don't necessarily have a hot summer in June and that's a bit like today actually it's a little bit mixed the weather sometimes there's blue sky it's a bit blowy it's a bit cool sometimes it's grey this is very typical weather for England this is what we're experiencing at the moment and I always think that June is almost like a little bit of an in-between place it's it's just the sort of in-between place between spring which has sprung very much so and the height of summer which is yet to come we think July and August July is the sort of for me in my world is the height of summer and then August is where everything begins to get a bit straggly and tatty and tired so we're moving into this what feels like a very energetic time when it comes to plants and growth and nature where everything is really pushing along and speeding along to grow and yet right at the moment it feels as though we're in between I'm just looking at the blue bells at the edge of the lane here and they they've collapsed it's like they haven't been watered but they're just dying back naturally back into the ground and for me the blue bells mark the end of spring and here we are in an in-between time and so my question is today is is are you in an in-between space do you kind of feel this sense of finishing something and not yet quite stepping into the next stage of your life you see it might be that there's a particular part of your life maybe it's a relationship or a job maybe it's your children they're moving from one part of their childhood to another part of their childhood maybe you find you are moving into a different phase of your life certainly for me as I moved through my 40s and 50s I felt as though I was transitioning into a different stage of life and that sort of in-between time was a really good time to describe what it felt like as I was transitioning I was neither a young woman nor an older woman I was in between and life is all about these transitional periods these times where we are in between spaces circumstances times of our life and it's good to acknowledge and recognize them I think sometimes it can feel as though we're not neither in one world or another we're neither in spring nor quite in summer but actually this in-between space is as important as knowing where you are and feeling as though you are striding purposely purposefully along in your life these in-between spaces might be times for you to retreat to have quiet time these in between spaces might be time for you to be creative to seek nourishment to find peace and quiet in your world these in-between times might be the opposite maybe your life is very quiet and this in-between time is is a time where you've got a spurt of energy or activity that you need to get through whatever it is for you just acknowledge the in-between times in your life and as we move now from spring into the height of summer even though the weather at the moment feels rather gray and cool it does feel like an in-between time here these in-between times are as much to be cherished as the times when we feel as though we are on a mission and know our direction of travel if you are having an in-between time it's okay just ask yourself what is the in-between time that I am going through in my life right at the moment

Thanks Liz 🙏🏼 Nourishment at an in between time makes sense I want to go forward into a new way of my relationship with a sibling and the waiting for the knowing of how to proceed is taxing me a bit, so like we fertilise the seedlings while we wait for the plant to unfold, I need to eat nourishingly to allow my knowing to unfold. Love how you present these gifts for us each day Liz from your ‘garden of knowing’. 🌿🧑🏼‍🌾🙏🏼🧑🏼‍🌾🌿

I'm at an in-between stage at the moment. I'm wanting to retire but I'm not quite there yet. I've got so many things I want to do other than work, but I can't quite afford to retire now, as I'm still a few years away from state pension age and don't want to blow all my personal pensions on funding a new lifestyle between now and my official retirement date. But, I've had enough of working, particularly as I've been in my job for over 25 years and I need a new challenge.

I'm in a transition from one job to another, it feels exciting and scary all at once, this will last for several weeks so I know I need to relax into it, pacing myself through the change gently 🧡 I want to enjoy the process and keep my confidence intact through it all 🙏
