Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me,
Liz Scott.
It's really glorious here in Exeter this evening.
I'm walking on a little track that takes me through a wooded area and the bird song is quite extraordinary.
I just can't believe that here I am pretty much in the middle of a city centre and yet the birds seem to be singing their hearts out.
It's a wonderful dappled footpath.
There are cyclists and walkers and runners going by so you might hear sound as I stand here talking to you.
But today I want to really share something about,
Well,
Something that really changed my life.
And if you've been listening to me for a while on Insight Timer,
You'll know that the three principles,
Or the inside out understanding as it's known,
Is something that's really important in my world.
I came across the three principles back in,
I think it was 2012 or 2013,
Somewhere around there.
So it's a good sort of 13 years ago.
And my life quite simply changed,
Not overnight,
But it was almost as though all the things that I thought I knew began to melt slowly.
And I saw something else that was so much more nourishing and so much more healthy for me in my life.
So I wanted to let you know what the three principles are and how I came across them today.
I just feel it's important and I want to encourage you to find out more if that makes sense to you.
And I've got a course here on Insight Time about the three principles if you do want to know more.
But for me,
When I came across the three principles,
I had been and was an avid collector of personal development,
Information and training.
I loved it.
I trained as a counsellor.
I trained in neuro-linguistic programming.
I read avidly things like the seven habits of highly effective people.
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
I read books and I devoured them.
And when I came across the three principles,
And it was only a chance conversation with a coaching friend,
Who just happened to mention she'd come across this thing called the three principles.
It was when I spoke with her that that was the first time I came across the three principles and my thought was it was going to be something I would learn like I'd learn with everything else and I'll just add it to what I already knew and I could share that with the clients I worked with.
But there was something different about the inside out understanding the three principles.
The more I explored it and I watched videos and and listened to people talking about it and went to conferences and workshops and retreats and books.
I couldn't grasp it intellectually.
I remember in the early days,
I went to a group not too far away.
And when I came back from this group,
I would feel absolutely chilled and relaxed.
And my husband would say,
What have you been doing?
What are these three principles?
Let me know what they are.
Different.
But I couldn't explain what they were.
And that was a big change for me because with every other training I'd undergone,
If my husband had asked me what it was,
I could have sat down and told him exactly what I'd been training in.
The three principles was different.
And it was different because when I came across it,
I felt as if I was coming home,
Coming home to myself.
As well as this deep sense of safety and realization that I was back home,
I also felt a little bit befuddled because I didn't understand what it was that had me feel this way.
I always thought I needed to go through some sort of tool or technique in order to feel better.
But actually there was something that I didn't understand intellectually where I was falling into a place of love and understanding and peace in my life.
And that's how it grew in my world.
It was a slow growing,
It's like a disease.
Dissolving and melting of things that I thought I knew were true,
And I began to realize that they weren't true.
And I began to simplify my understanding of how life worked.
I began to see that I wasn't battling or fighting life,
And I wasn't battling or fighting my thoughts.
Instead,
I began to see that I was looking for a space within me that was the connection to life itself,
The energy that is behind life itself.
Ever since I came across the three principles,
Which was about 13 years ago,
I have been deepening understanding and explorations because for me this holds the most truthful explanation of the human experience and it's a peaceful journey that brings you back ultimately to love and to your true nature.
So I just wanted to share that with you today and let me know your reflections on whether you've come across the three principles or whether you're curious to learn more.
And don't forget I'll be back again tomorrow with another 5 minutes in nature.
