Many times we find ourselves resisting the urge to slow down in the wintertime. This affirmation meditation is meant to help remind us that it's okay for goals and plans to be approached slowly, and with compassion. In this meditation, we will deeply reflect on the stillness of winter while using the theme to set an intention from a place of calm. NOTE: This meditation was written before the polar vortex hit the US. I am sending prayers to everyone affected by this. Stay safe everyone.

The cold brings about a sense of darkness or feeling a little bit more tired than usual.

It's almost like we go into our own state of hibernation.

The cold also affords an opportunity to create an inward strength and warmth that no season can deter.

It is the opportunity to sow seeds within our own earth,

Within our own foundation for the future.

This meditation is meant to help inspire an inner warmth and honor the stillness and natural pausing that comes with this season,

But also to create a space where the season does not define you when it comes to daily tasks and goals you may wish to accomplish.

The balance between slowing down when you need to,

But also seeing to your daily tasks and goals when you also may wish to accomplish them.

So with that,

Come to your comfortable seated position or even better,

Lie down.

I invite you to pause the meditation and grab pillows and blankets and make yourself super cozy and warm.

When you are ready and you're nice and bundled up,

Notice the stillness of the earth and possible surroundings all around you.

Maybe you can close your eyes and hear the sound of a heater or maybe you hear the bustling of traffic.

Maybe you can hear sounds of nature.

Maybe you hear nothing at all.

Now move inward.

Can you possibly sense a shift in the energy?

Seeing the difference between spring,

Fall,

Summer and this moment.

Maybe you feel the shift within yourself.

Take a moment to honor the stillness that comes with these natural and organic cycles of divine nature in all her glory.

Take a big deep inhale into the body and sigh out.

Take a nice big deep inhale into the body and sigh out.

Big deep inhale and gentle exhale.

Feel the breath rising and falling and observe the moments of stillness in between each breath.

Take the stillness of winter that is after an exhale and before an inhale.

Take a moment to continue to tune into the rising and falling of your breath.

Let it cultivate a warm energy like the sun on a warm day or the heat of fire on a cold winter night.

Let the warmth of energy rush to any spaces of the body that are tense,

Cold,

Drained or stagnant.

Or maybe the parts of the body that are holding onto things that no longer serve you.

Let that tension melt into the earth.

Let the earth soak up any emotions or tensions that do not serve you.

Notice that the earth still beneath you is breathing too.

Imagine an ideal winter day where you are still metaphorically sowing the seeds for your future and happiness while embracing how you feel today,

Where you are today,

Without judgement,

Criticism or pressure on yourself to be or do something specific.

Believe after me or simply let these affirmations run over your body.

In stillness I grow.

In stillness I grow.

I rest to rise.

The warmth of love and joy radiates from me.

I am exactly where I am meant to be and moving in the way I need to.

I am exactly where I am meant to be and moving in the way I need to.

I have everything I need to face and overcome all obstacles that come my way.

I have everything I need to face all obstacles that come my way.

I trust that what I will focus on will grow in time.

I trust that what I will focus on will grow in time.

I embrace the art of seemingly doing nothing knowing I am sowing the seeds for my happiness.

I embrace the art of seemingly doing nothing knowing I am sowing seeds for my happiness.

I am loved.

I am loved.

Spring is coming.

Spring is coming.

I move through life with warmth in my heart and light in my soul.

I move through life with warmth in my heart and light in my soul.

Just take a moment of gratitude for maybe just being here,

Maybe just having breath in your lungs or recognizing that there is a sense of beauty to this season.

Now go ahead and think of one thing you wish to do for yourself today even though that task may take you a little bit more time than you wish.

The key is that you have prioritized something for yourself and for your happiness and your future.

Imagine the steps you need to get this task done.

And then go ahead and set the intention to follow this vision,

To sow this intention into your life today and water it with compassion and patience.

Remember that the winter is an opportunity to inspire authentic joy,

Authentic truth and creativity while helping us remember and honor the seasons within us,

Mother Nature herself and all that is around us.

Stay cozy within,

Stay warm within,

And good luck my friend.

Namaste.

You helped me cope with a debilitating chronic illness MORE THAN YOU KNOW. I struggle with acceptance, while still having hope and trusting the healing and growth to come. The deep deep rest and looooong periods of stillness, all that has seemingly died around me. For 7 years now, the loss of my mobility๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿฆฝ, teaching yoga๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜”, all that I dreamed of manifesting at this time in my life๐Ÿ“๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽผ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง—๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฟ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿฌโ›ต๏ธ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿผ...has seemingly gone away. And yet, like the leafless bare branches of winter trees, there is such beauty blossoming beneath the surface๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿชด๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒน. Only the benevolent loving arms of the Universe truly understand what this feels like๐Ÿ’”. Only these arms - and the quiet, sometimes silent whisper of my soul can guide me to what (on the many days without doubt creeping in) I know is real. That health and wellness and joy and beauty exist. It is just not in my time, but godโ€™s time. Along the way, there are infinite lessons that I can carry lightly into my future. But for now, this day, this moment, this breath is the fertile ground I have been given. This love buried beneath the ground where I find my feet...this is where I grow. Thank you my teacher, my guide, my sister, my fellow yogini๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ, my friend in spirit๐Ÿ•Š. Know that you have truly touched me today. Many many many blessings to you.
