This is a practice to help you feel strong and supported when times feel uncertain or anxious. Gentle breath awareness, visualisation, and affirmations have been included to help you embody a feeling of safety and grounded connection.

Welcome to this grounding meditation.

Thank you so much for gifting yourself this time to reconnect to your foundations.

Over the next few minutes we will be going on a gentle journey to help you create space in your mind and body in order to build beautifully strong roots that will ground you into this present moment and leave you feeling stable and supported.

Begin by making yourself as comfortable as you can be,

Either lying down or sitting on a chair or sitting on a floor if that feels comfortable to you.

Make any necessary movements that your body desires until you feel content and comfortable enabling you to welcome a soft stillness into your body.

Now take a moment here to scan up and down the body and allow a sense of stability to settle in.

Feeling yourself being totally held by the surface that you are resting on,

Totally supported by the ground.

Bring your attention to the top of your head and sweep your awareness through all the little muscles in your face,

Letting each one gently relax and let go of any tension.

Let the lower jaw softly ease away from the upper jaw,

Removing any need to hold or clench in this area.

Continue this journey down to the shoulders,

Feeling the shoulders ease away from your ears,

Letting the shoulder blades slide down the back,

Letting the arms and hands rest where they naturally fall.

Release the need to hold on to your belly muscles or tense through any areas of the upper,

Middle or lower back and let the hips feel expansive and open without any need to force.

Let your lower body weigh down into the surface beneath you without needing to resist or create tension through the thighs,

The knees,

The calves,

The ankles.

Feel your feet resting effortlessly,

Connecting you to the ground beneath.

Now take a moment to once more sweep your awareness over your entire body and ask yourself,

Could I soften and release even more in this position?

Could the shape of my body welcome more ease?

Could this position be any more effortless?

If there is space for just 1% more softness,

Allow that to settle in now.

As you create this beautifully soft spaciousness in your physical body,

Now turn your attention to your breath.

This breath constantly connects you to your inner and outer worlds.

It is a gift in each moment.

Observe your breath,

Accepting it as it is right now and watching as the inhale floods your body with nourishment and as the exhale releases all that doesn't serve you anymore.

Keep your attention on this expansive breath in,

Offering you all that you need in this moment to fill the body up with a renewed sense of energy and purpose and then bringing the awareness to that sweet surrender that comes with your exhale,

Watching the breath,

Watching any stagnant energy release from your body,

Any worries or thoughts that are not nourishing to you.

Breathe them out now and let them go.

Take a moment now and anchor yourself to your breath using the words,

I am breathing in,

I am breathing out.

Gently and silently repeating these words to yourself to bring you to this present moment.

Now as you begin to let your mind and body sink into this relaxed state,

Invite the image of a beautiful old oak tree to join you on this journey.

The trunk is wider than your arms can reach around and the branches reach high into the sky,

A beautiful spiral of twists and turns rising up to beyond where your eyes can see.

As you observe this natural presence,

A sense of peace and strength washes over your entire body.

As you stop for a moment and watch this gentle giant,

You begin to feel magnetized towards its open bowels.

The walk towards the tree is slow yet easeful,

There is no rush for you trust that this journey will take as long as it needs to.

Each step feels purposeful and stable as you draw closer and closer.

On your journey you notice the heel of each foot firmly digging into the surface beneath you,

Followed by a fluid rolling motion as the ball of your foot descends effortlessly towards the earth and finally the toes press down into the ground beneath you.

There's a pause before you take the next step and when you are ready you sense the heel lifting and peeling up towards the sky,

Followed by the ball of your foot rising and finally the toes lifting and suspending for a moment before the cycle begins again.

Step by step,

Breath by breath,

Breathing in and breathing out as you journey slowly towards this beautiful object in nature.

As you arrive beneath this wise old oak tree you stand at the base and look up and catch glimmers of a clear blue sky peeking out and contrasting against the darkness of the leaves and branches.

A smile comes to your face and you place both hands on the trunk allowing your weight to lean towards the tree and know that you are fully supported here.

Both feet are firmly on the ground,

Both hands are connected to the cool imperfect surface that Mother Nature has created.

You stay here for a moment drawing all the energy you need from this beautiful old soul before turning and leaning your back against the tree,

Feeling your entire body held upright by the strength of the natural element that rests behind you,

Feeling this trunk wrap around your shoulders,

Your middle back,

Your lower back,

Embracing you like an old friend.

The years and years of wisdom and knowing wrap itself around you energetically,

Around your shoulders,

Around your whole body and there's an invitation to rest here.

As you rest leaning your entire body against the tree you sense the roots reaching further and further into the earth beneath you,

Knowing that they are so deeply earth there is very little that can rock their foundations.

As you lean here you feel a sense of peace and surrender as your feet press down into the soil beneath you,

Sending your own energetic roots into the earth,

Spiraling down and intertwining with the roots of the tree as you draw all the nourishment and stability that both of you need up through the stems.

Stand here for a while and draw all that you need from the earth and know that you are safe here.

You are grounded,

You are stable and you are so deeply connected that while the wind may blow and your branches may sway your roots are firm and your foundations are strong.

You slide yourself down to a seated position at the base of the tree leaning your weight against the trunk.

You notice a shard of light shining onto the very spot you are sitting and you feel a gentle warmth settling into the front of your body.

Take a moment now to feel this nourishing warmth sink into your face,

Your shoulders and deep into your heart space.

You know in this moment that you are fully supported here.

You are safe,

You are grounded,

You are safe,

You are grounded,

You are safe,

You are grounded,

You are connected to this earth,

Connected to this space,

You are strong and rooted.

Taking this deep sense of support you now feel ready to rise up from the ground and begin your journey back towards the place that you began.

One footstep at a time,

Noticing that your connection to the earth feels stronger now,

More rooted.

Noticing that despite your distance from the tree the sensation of the trunk supporting your back remains with you on your travels.

Glancing behind you,

You take a moment to thank the tree for its stability and wisdom.

Glancing at your feet,

You take a moment to thank them for their ability to ground and connect you.

Glancing at your chest,

Your heart space,

You take a moment to secure this feeling of deep knowing within yourself as if you are planting a beautiful seed into your own center.

You are fully supported here,

You are grounded in this space,

You are connected to the earth,

You are strong and rooted.

Say the word silently to yourself,

I am fully supported here,

I am grounded in this space,

I am connected to the earth,

I am strong and rooted.

Beginning to connect back into the space that you are resting in,

Beginning to reacquaint yourself with the external world,

Beginning by simply listening to the sounds,

The sounds in the room that you are in and the sounds within your body and then connecting to the sensations in your body,

The rise and fall of your breath,

Any urges to move and then inviting this soft movement,

A wiggle of the fingers,

A wiggle of the toes,

Gently reawakening yourself in this space but with a new sense of stability,

A new sense of safety,

A new sense of grounding.

Before you open your eyes repeat these words to yourself,

I am safe,

I am grounded,

I am safe,

I am grounded,

I am safe,

I am grounded.

Now place your hands on your heart,

Take a deep breath in and as you exhale crack open your eyes and take in the surroundings around you.

Thank you for taking this time for yourself,

Thank you for your presence.

Now take this sense of support through your day,

Through your week and beyond and whenever things feel wobbly or uncertain come back to the sensation of your own inner oak tree standing tall behind your back and supporting you as you journey forward.
