Welcome to the Center the Absurd Meditation Podcast,

Where we engage deeply and mindfully with the silliest and most absurd spaces within ourselves in order to find levity and relief from the pains and stresses of our human existence.

Today's meditation practice focuses on relaxing our nervous system,

Redirecting attention away from stressful,

Worrying,

Or distracting thoughts,

And falling into a deep,

Restorative sleep.

Start by lying your body down.

Feel your back and legs settling,

Letting go of tensions and melting into the bed,

Cushion,

Or floor beneath you.

Begin to notice your breathing,

Feeling the air enter your nose,

Your belly filling with breath.

Hold it for a count of three,

And then slowly exhale,

Blowing the air out slowly and releasing a sigh as you let go of heavy energies or tension in your body.

Again,

A breath in,

Hold for three seconds,

And exhale into a sigh.

Once more,

Breathing in deeply,

Filling your abdomen and feeling your belly fill with breath.

Hold,

And release with a sigh,

Letting go of stresses and worries you may be holding.

Now,

Imagine you are standing at the doors of an elevator.

At first,

You're confused.

You take a look around and say to yourself,

What the heck?

How did I get here?

Quickly,

Your confusion lets go,

And you find you are curious.

The space you are in seems okay,

Actually kind of nice.

You are interested in seeing what happens,

Open to what you might find.

After all,

You're a pretty easygoing person.

People say that about you all the time.

You are alone,

And you feel very safe and protected,

Even though the space you are in is new to you.

The elevator doors open,

And you step inside to find the compartment is actually quite cozy.

It's maybe the most luxurious elevator you've ever been in.

The walls and floor are padded with plush red fabric,

And along the back wall is a velvet bench with a pillowed back and arms.

You take a seat,

And as you do,

You notice the air feels light and crisp,

Slightly warm.

There is soft,

Soothing music playing from a speaker.

From somewhere,

You smell something pleasant.

It's hard to describe,

But it smells like some kind of combination of freshly baked bread and clean laundry.

It would make a fantastic scent for a candle or a room spray.

Someone could make a fortune marketing something that smells this cozy.

The doors close,

And you are aware of feeling surrounded by some kind of protective,

Comforting energy.

It's like being in a giant hug,

A hug where there's no beginning or end,

Nothing awkward or uncomfortable about it,

And it lasts exactly the right amount of time.

You shut your eyes and breathe in deeply,

Relaxing into the space and sinking into the cushions around you.

You feel the elevator begin to descend slowly.

You hear a familiar voice of someone you love and trust.

Floor three,

It says,

And you notice your arms and legs feel quite heavy.

You are glad to be sitting down,

And you lean back,

Letting your head rest against the velvety cushions behind you.

You are beginning to feel drowsy.

You open your eyes and see the light in the elevator is now soft and dimmed.

You blink slowly,

Your eyelids heavy.

You hear the soothing voice again.

Floor two,

It says,

And now it is becoming harder to keep your eyes open.

You allow them to close and release all of the muscles in your body,

Allowing your whole self to relax into the softness around you.

You are warm and feel like the entire space is embracing and holding you.

There is nowhere else you need to be,

Nothing for you to do.

Everything in this moment feels slowed down and easy.

You can still hear the soft music.

Your mind feels cottony.

You hear yourself say,

I think I could play piano if I wasn't so ridiculously sleepy.

It's one of several silly thoughts that pass through your mind before there is finally just stillness and quiet inside your head.

Ground floor,

The voice announces.

By now you have fallen into a deep,

Relaxed state.

Your muscles are loose,

Your mind quiet.

You feel so unbelievably comfortable.

All you want to do is sleep.

You know you are safe and you know when it is time,

You will awaken gently,

Feeling refreshed and fully rested.

Everything about this moment is perfect.

Since getting onto the elevator,

Everything is awesome and you feel fantastic.

The elevator doors open and with your eyes still closed,

You feel a comfortable breeze blow across your face.

You open your eyes for just a moment and see that in front of you is a deep blue sky filled with stars.

The bench on which you are lying slowly extends,

Cradling your full body,

Your legs and feet,

Your torso,

Your arms and hands,

Your neck and head.

All of you is supported by a softness.

This thing is awesome.

You feel the bench,

Now more of a bed,

Begin to glide forward slowly.

And you see that as you clear the doors of the elevator,

You come to a stop,

Surrounded by warm sand and the sound of waves splashing onto a shore in the distance.

You realize you and everything in the scene surrounding you is contained within a shielded bubble of energy.

You are held in a chamber of relaxation and peace.

No forces or energies can penetrate the shield and disturb you.

You may stay and rest as long as you would like.

You have never felt more relaxed in your life.

When it is time for you to wake,

You know that the bed you are on will slowly draw back into the elevator.

The elevator doors will close and you will ascend slowly up to floor 2,

Then floor 3 where you began.

Your eyes will slowly open and you will feel refreshed and restored.

You will stretch and take several energizing breaths,

Returning to your home space and feeling ready to start your day.

There is no rush.

You can stay in this safe,

Cozy space,

Cuddled and comfortable for as long as you like.

The elevator and this space will always be accessible.

You can come and go as you please.

You can return to the elevator and this sleep space anytime you want.

For now,

Just rest.

Let go of all of your responsibilities,

Worries,

Distractions and heavy energies.

You deserve to set it all down and sleep deeply.

Sink into the comfort.

Know you are safe and held.

Relax and let go.

You can sleep now.

Be well.
