Transcript
In this meditation,
You're going to need a sketch pad in front of you with a ruler,
A pencil,
A compass,
And a pen if you have one.
So just take a few minutes,
Pause this recording,
And get all the supplies you need.
Now,
Looking at the paper in front of you,
Just take a deep breath.
And as you breathe out,
Just envision all the possibilities unfolding on the blank canvas in front of you.
Now we're going to start with just drawing a simple circle in the middle of the page.
This will be the movement from the nothingness to the One,
The One circle.
So let's measure about halfway across the page.
Draw a little line halfway at the bottom.
Then measure the other way.
Use that dot so you know where the center is.
And find the middle of the page this way.
From the very middle of the page,
Take the compass,
About three and a half centimeters,
And draw your first circle.
Feel the flow of the compass as it moves around the point.
So starting with the first circle,
This is the wholeness,
Stability.
It represents infinity,
Manifestation.
It is the first circle of the seven and the seed of life,
Which is where we're going with this.
It represents perfection and the source of consciousness.
It's where happens the birth of all things,
Newness,
Motivation,
Possibilities that await us.
It's also symbolic of independence,
Looks for opportunities and challenges,
The manifestation of light and sound.
Such a beautiful,
Simple form with a point in the center.
Place your compass on the very top of that circle and draw another circle the exact same size.
It will intersect with the middle of the first circle.
So now you have two circles on your page,
One overlapping the other.
This is the representative of the two or duality.
The first circle replicating itself,
Creating a yes,
A no,
A me,
A you,
A male-female energy,
Yin-yang.
The almond shape in the middle of these two circles is known as the vesica pisces.
There's two equilateral triangles through this.
If you see and you draw from the point and you envision the triangle.
Well,
My circle is on top,
So the triangles are going left to right.
If you turn your page,
You can envision the two triangles,
One pointing up and one pointing down.
This is known as the vesica diamond.
From here,
We're going to take our compass on the intersection of these two circles.
It intersects at two points.
Put your compass on one of those points and draw another circle.
This one also goes through the center of the very first circle we drew.
And the center of the second circle we drew.
On your page now are three circles.
This represents the trinity,
Also known as the triquetra,
The tripod of life.
The power of three has been used in creation in many different traditions and cultures.
In Hinduism,
They had the Brahma,
The Vishnu,
And the Shiva,
The three gods of creation.
In Christianity,
They had the Holy Trinity,
The Father,
The Son,
And the Holy Ghost.
It also represents the triangle of the three.
Youthful,
Positive communication,
Creative expression,
Ideas,
Art,
And excitement.
Now from the three,
We can also think about how three shows up in our lives.
We have heaven,
The earth,
And hell.
We have past,
Present,
And future.
Birth,
Life,
Death.
Beginning,
Middle,
And end.
In ritual,
Many actions are performed three times.
Three is the number of magic,
Such as third time lucky.
From the three now,
We're going to move on to the fourth circle.
So where that third circle intersects the first circle,
Draw another one.
This will be the fourth circle in the seed of life.
Now four represents the four elements,
Air,
Earth,
Fire,
Water.
It's a number of order,
Strength.
It's a rational number,
Practical.
It depicts mental strength.
It's dependable.
You think of four corners of a square.
You think of the four seasons,
The four points of a compass,
The four faces of the moon.
In Buddhism,
They talk about the four noble truths.
So from our four,
Number four,
We can also think of the breath count.
We breathe in for four.
We hold at the top for four.
And then we breathe out for four.
Let it go.
And hold it out for four.
We're going to go on to the fifth circle now.
As you draw these circles,
Really just staying present.
Enjoying the process and how the seed of life is manifesting on the page.
The number five symbolizes the pentagram.
In Buddhism,
They have five aggregates that constitute the mind and body.
Matter,
Sensations,
Perceptions,
Mental formation,
And awareness.
There's five platonic solids.
Five elements of light.
Ether,
Wind,
Water,
Light,
And fire.
Or the four elements plus the ether.
Air,
Water,
Earth,
Fire,
And ether.
The Mayans considered the compass to have the fifth point,
Which is in the center.
Representing the point of stillness before going in any direction.
We have five fingers.
Five senses.
Five represents curiosity,
Freedom,
Adventure,
Experimenting,
Change,
Adapting,
And being unattached.
Moving now on to number six.
We're going to draw the next circle using the intersection of the last point and the middle circle.
Now you're starting to really see the seed take form on your page.
So the sixth circle.
The sixth is known as a perfect number.
It's the sum of one plus two plus three.
It's also the product of one times two times three.
It represents the heart,
Hexagon.
It represents healing,
Hope,
Honesty.
It's supportive.
It represents harmony.
People know about the six degrees of separation.
Or the sixth sense.
Bugs have six legs.
Sometimes coffins are known to be buried six feet under.
So to me the sixth is a number of other realm.
But the seven,
That's the magical number.
Let's draw our seventh circle now in the seed of life on your page in the center.
Now if you look at the image in front of you,
You see a flower-like design.
From here you can take the compass at any of the intersection points along the edges and keep going infinitely.
This represents infinity,
Unity.
Everything's connected.
It's also known as the building blocks for existence.
Now the number seven has many significances.
Such as the seven days of the week.
The seven colors of a rainbow.
The seven chakras.
The seven steps to enlightenment.
It's said that humans can retain seven items of information in short-term memory.
Which is why phone numbers are often seven numbers.
Over here in North America anyway.
Number seven is deep and wise.
It asks questions,
Digs for meaning.
It listens and senses.
Searching for hidden truths.
Separating fact from fiction.
Some other things about the number seven were facts.
People say that the number seven's lucky.
But it also equates to the seven deadly sins.
The seven-year itch.
The heptagon has seven sides.
The seven-sided shape.
There's seven continents,
Seven seas.
And seven is the neutral pH balance.
It's also the number of spots most commonly found on ladybugs.
Not to mention the seven notes or pitches in a diatonic music scale.
A to G.
And the seven metals of alchemy or antiquity.
Gold,
Silver,
Copper,
Tin,
Lead,
Iron,
And mercury.
So just stare at the center of your page.
This is called the seat of life.
It represents the interconnection of life on earth and of universal existence.
It symbolizes that all life originated from a single source.
It's known in the book of Genesis as the Genesis pattern.
Which represents the seven days of creation.
The six circles and then on the seventh was the day of rest.
Sometimes there's an eighth circle surrounding the entire thing.
Which represents the infinite cycle.
So let's draw this eighth circle.
Making your compass a little bit bigger.
And matching up the point where the pencil is to the very edge of one of the other circles.
To draw a circle around the entire thing.
The oldest representation of this symbol on your page in front of you.
Can be seen drawn on the walls of the temple of Osiris.
In Abydos.
Which was created around 6,
Other cultures and religions have also adopted this pattern in other ways.
Such as the Egyptians,
Seven paths to heaven.
They're found in temples in China.
From Hinduism,
Christianity,
Islam and Babylonian traditions.
This is the source of all sacred geometry.
And this is the symbol where we'll be starting.
All of our designs.
From here,
If you look in the middle petals of the flower.
You can notice that there's an opportunity to draw two triangles.
Fairly easily.
If you put your point at the very top of the top petal.
And then your point on the side petals at the bottom.
And take the ruler.
And draw a triangle.
This is known as an equilateral triangle.
Where all the sides are the same length.
The first triangle is pointed up.
That represents fire.
The masculine Shiva energy.
Now we're going to draw a triangle the same but pointed down.
Intersecting with this one.
So at the bottom petal of the small flower in the middle.
You can see there's the point.
And then on both petals on either side at the top.
Are the other two points of this triangle.
So when we finish drawing this equilateral triangle.
The second one here.
We notice another shape in the center.
This shape is known in Jewish tradition as the Star of David.
We call it the hexagram.
As above so below.
It represents a union of opposites.
Up triangle and a down triangle.
The male and the female.
The fire going up and the female pointed down.
Is the water energy.
The physical and the spiritual.
It's also known as Solomon's seal.
Or the star polygon.
We can also draw a hexagram.
Using the outer edges of the circles.
So start by drawing a line.
Or marking the exact top and exact bottom of the complete outer circle.
You might need to take your ruler.
And line it up with the top and bottom of the inner petals.
Now.
Using the petals.
That are going diagonally from the middle flower.
Draw a little mark on the outer circles.
The outer circle.
So we can find the point that goes diagonally.
You can even draw a really thin line.
Through those two petals.
So I've got a thin line going from the top of my page to the bottom of my page.
Through the middle petals.
And I have a thin line going through the left petal on the top.
And the right petal on the bottom.
All the way to the outer edge of the circle.
And there's one more there.
Draw a line from the upper right.
Through the upper right petal.
And through the lower left petal.
All the way to the edge of the circle.
From here we're going to draw two more hexagons.
So put a little point at the very top of the page.
In the center of the big circle.
Where it lines up with that line you just drew.
And draw two more points.
On the left and right at the bottom.
Where the line matches up with that circle.
And we're going to draw a hexagon.
Or the first triangle I guess.
Of the hexagon.
Using these three points.
The last hexagon we'll be drawing is the opposite one.
Pointed downwards.
So put a dot at the bottom of the page.
Where the line intersects the circle.
And on the left and the right at the top of the page.
Where your new lines you just drew intersects the outer circle.
This will be the outer hexagon.
Beautiful.
So looking at the shape you have in front of you.
You have a double hexagon.
Two triangles pointed up.
Two triangles pointed down.
Balance of energies.
The union point of singularity in the center.
Where everything originated.
And the seed of life which represents the seed of all creation.
The unity.
The connectedness.
Now you can use this image of the seed of life.
To just sink into the middle.
And meditate on all the different parts of it.
Remaining as present and focused as you can.
Perhaps thinking about an intention.
Perhaps thinking about trying to clear your mind of thoughts.
Clarity.
And I encourage you to further this lesson.
Is to take a pen.
And shade it or color it in any way you see fit.
As you draw this and shade it and fill it in.
Pour your love into it.
Make it your own.
And perhaps think of an intention.
That you would like this to have when you look upon it.
Thank you for joining me in this lesson.
The simple seed of life with a double hexagon.
I hope you enjoyed it.
And I hope to see you back for another drawing meditation.
