Hi,
Welcome back,
This is Ed.
Today I want to share with you a technique I call it the return to joy.
You know,
At some point in our lives,
Even if for brief moments as children,
We have experienced joy for no reason at all.
You could say that those experiences were so indelibly felt that they have in some mysterious way set into motion a lifelong search to return to that same joy.
Unfortunately,
As adults,
We have been brought up and domesticated to seek joy outside of ourselves in objects and relationships that are ever-changing and temporary.
We have in some tragic way lost our connection with the joy center within ourselves.
In this meditation I will show you a simple way to begin to re-establish your connection with an unconditional joy that was with you as a young child and still remains seemingly hidden within you.
This approach is easy and natural and only requires that you be present in the moment,
Unencumbered by worrisome thinking.
So let's begin.
Please close your eyes and move your attention to your breath.
Take a nice long and even breath,
Inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth.
Good.
Let's take another.
Do you feel how wonderful it is to breathe?
Taking in oxygen and energy into every cell of our body.
Now,
Let's spend a minute or two just paying attention to our breath,
Noticing how our chest expands and contracts or how the air feels moving through our nose and into our lungs.
Let's do this for about a minute and a half.
Okay.
Now,
I would like you to focus on one activity that brings you joy,
That brings joy into your day.
Think about it.
It could be a song that you like to hear or sing or possibly a way of dancing that sets your heart free.
It can even be taking time or talking with someone who's very special to you.
In fact,
It can be anything as long as it makes you happy and brings a smile on your face.
I'll give you a minute to remember one of these,
Pick the best one and connect with it and experience the joy of just thinking about it.
Okay.
Good.
Did you feel some joy?
Great.
Now let's continue doing this for about three minutes.
And remember,
If a thought should come into your mind and takes your attention away from your joy thought,
Just remember to return your attention to that thought,
That song,
That beautiful person,
Or that beautiful place that brings you joy and peace.
Okay,
Let's begin.
Good.
You.
