My name is Eden,
And I am a meditation guide,
Reiki master teacher,
And licensed therapist.
And today we're going to be exploring one of EMDR's steps called resourcing.
And resourcing is used really as a band-aid.
To help find regulation in your system again when there are moments of activation.
Whether that's remembering an old event,
Something new arrives in your life.
It's a way of just sorting out what's helpful for your mind and your body.
To come back into regulation where processing can occur.
And today we're going to be specifically exploring what is commonly known as this calm,
Safe,
Secure place.
It's an imagined resource that I'll walk you through step by step.
And if it doesn't land for you,
Then that is good,
Important information.
It does not mean you have failed,
Just that some other resource might work better for your mind,
For your body,
For your lived experience.
And for others,
This will work very well,
Providing this sense of calm.
Safety,
Security.
In your daily living.
Making those feelings and emotions easier to reach for when you recognize you could use them.
So knowing that,
Just starting to let yourself settle in here.
Taking a few slow,
Deep breaths.
And letting the eyes start to glaze over,
Or if it's comfortable for you,
Closing them down gently from top to bottom.
Deep breath in.
Soft breath out.
And letting your hands come to your knees,
Left palm to left knee and right to right That is where we will be tapping once cued.
Finding a bit more spaciousness in this posture.
Maybe that means relaxing a tense muscle you notice.
Maybe that means releasing the day mentally just a little bit more.
How can you settle in here?
Good.
Now starting to invite in a place or experience in your recent past where you felt secure where you felt calm.
Perhaps even where you felt happy.
This can be within the last several years.
But keeping it more recent.
Not using childhood places or Anywhere associated with another person.
This is purely yours.
About you and this place,
This location.
And just scrolling through your mental Rolodex of places,
Of memories,
Of feelings and starting to land on a place.
And as you do,
Taking all the time you need here to notice.
The image that comes up.
The sensations,
The smells,
The visuals,
The movements,
The sounds.
.
.
As you bring yourself back there,
What are your five senses picking up on and noticing?
Allowing yourself to settle into that sense of calm even more.
Perhaps it's the security,
The happiness,
Few more breaths here.
And then noticing what else you notice once you place yourself here.
And whatever positive feelings,
Thoughts,
Sensations you're noticing,
Staying with those too.
And then gently tapping left hand,
Right hand.
Left hand.
Right hand,
Nice and slow,
Four more taps.
Just like that.
Tapping those feelings,
This imagery in.
And releasing those taps,
Good.
Staying with this experience,
This mental image,
These positive feelings,
Thoughts,
Sensations,
Emotions… What else can you notice?
Perhaps the memory elongates,
Perhaps your five senses come online even more.
Deepening the color that you imagine or this well of security within you.
No wrong answers.
And whenever you land on more positive feelings,
Thoughts,
Sensations,
Tapping those in too.
Staying with that left hand,
Right hand,
Left hand,
Right hand.
Four more taps just like that.
Good.
A few more breaths,
Staying with it.
And now choosing a word or phrase to denote this place,
This experience.
So that if I were to say this in conversation to you at any point moving forward,
You would know the place.
You would know the feeling.
One or two words will do.
And now in your mind,
Repeating that word.
Alongside these positive emotions and sensations and visuals.
Relaxing the physical body.
What do you notice?
Allowing yourself to notice whatever arrives.
And whatever positive shift,
Emotion,
Thought arrives,
Again,
Just slowly tapping that in,
Allowing it to be a part of this mental experience.
Left hand,
Right hand,
Left hand,
Right hand.
4 more nice and slow.
So good.
And now we're going to just take a moment to test out this resource.
So go ahead and invite in a very mildly disturbing recent event,
Perhaps being cut off in traffic earlier today.
Just the feeling of the to-do list for the day,
Something small and low stakes.
And letting yourself sit with that feeling for a moment,
What it feels like to bring that memory up,
That feeling up.
Of slight disturbance,
Noticing what you notice in your mind and your body.
And then internally saying that word or phrase that denotes this calm,
Secure place.
Bringing that mental image back in,
The felt sense back in.
Can you reach for it and let it be a balm to this mildly disturbing memory?
Noticing what you notice.
What slightly shifts or calms down or expands or opens?
And if there's a positive shift here,
Go ahead and tap that in.
Staying with it,
Left hand,
Right hand.
Left hand.
Right hand,
Four more,
Just like that.
Good.
And just relaxing that mental focus here now,
Taking a few slow breaths in.
Thanking this calm,
Secure place within you.
And just imagining that it anchors somewhere within your physical body.
Where it's even more accessible alongside the phrase,
The image,
The sensations.
This place is now anchored somewhere within you.
And know that you can always reach for this calm,
Secure place,
This visual,
This felt sense.
Whenever something comes up in your day,
A memory,
A current event that is enlivening something within you.
Anger,
Fear,
Sadness.
Frustration,
Whatever it may be,
Just letting this be an internal experiment.
Can you notice when reaching for this calm,
Secure place,
Is that balm to the soul?
And when does it seem to not quite help?
And even how often do you think to reach for it?
Knowing you do not have to be perfect.
And we release any pressure on you for this to be.
The perfect fix.
Just an experience.
And experiment.
To see if this can be a resource for you in other moments beyond here.
So taking this with you throughout your day.
You always can come back here.
And even anchoring in more and more calm,
Secure,
Safe places within you.
Deep breath in Soft breath out Allowing yourself to gently,
Slowly.
.
.
Make your way back into your space in this present moment.
Bringing light back into the eyes.
Gentle movement into the body.
Good.
Welcome back.
And Be well.
