You Don’t Have to Force Clarity
by Debra Ford
So many people are searching for clarity—about direction, decisions, and what comes next. This short talk offers a different perspective: that clarity doesn’t come from pressure or overthinking… but from space. A gentle reminder that the answers we’re looking for are often already within us—waiting for enough quiet to be heard. A soft reflection to return to: Where can I create a little more space?

Hello,
Friend.
You know,
I've spent many,
Many years studying and also teaching the Tao and there's something that I've come to see that might be helpful for you.
It's a beautiful,
Bright,
Clear spring day here in Calgary as I look out the window.
It's the kind of day that feels simple,
That feels open.
It reminds me of how often people are searching for clarity.
I search for clarity,
You search for clarity,
And we search for clarity about our work,
About our direction,
About our next step.
You know,
Our natural instinct is usually to think harder,
Yeah,
To analyze more,
To try to figure it out,
To perhaps even wrestle it to the ground.
But friend,
Clarity doesn't come from pressure,
No.
Clarity comes from having space,
From finding space,
From space.
From a Tao perspective,
Clarity is something that emerges when there's enough quiet for you to actually hear yourself,
For you to actually hear the whispers.
You know,
If everything inside is just tight and busy and overwhelmed,
Well,
That's when clarity gets drowned out.
So perhaps instead of asking,
How do I find the answer?
You might try asking,
Where can I create a little more space?
Because friend,
Often the answer is already there,
It just hasn't had the room to surface.
So a small reflection for you to carry with you,
How might I create a little more space?
And with love,
Friend.
