Sometimes falling asleep seems impossible.

Your thoughts are bouncing around from one thing to the next.

You may feel fidgety,

Restless,

Or simply that you're unable to get comfortable.

But I'm here to tell you that even if all of the above is true,

You can surrender and to sleep.

You can surrender and to sleep by offering your thoughts one at a time into the darkness of sleep.

Start with a normal breath in and out through the nose.

Settle into the body.

Settle into this moment.

When one thought arrives,

Just send it out into the darkness.

A shooting star against a black array of darkness.

Watch the thought disappear into the abyss.

When another thought arrives,

Send it on its way.

Keep sending,

Distracting thoughts into the darkness.

Again and again and again.

Sleep is an act of surrender.

It is an act of letting go.

In your mind's eye,

Picture a fist holding tightly onto something seemingly important.

And now picture that fist releasing its grip and feeling relaxed instead.

Picture the hand holding onto something really tightly,

Really tightly.

And now picture it letting go.

Releasing,

Relaxing.

Breathe in,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Breathe out,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Breathe in,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

And out,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

Keep going in and out,

Trying to make your exhales a little bit longer than your inhales.

Finally releasing any thoughts that are ruminating in your mind out into the abyss,

Into the darkness.

A thin star across a black sky.

Before you fall asleep,

Make one wish for yourself.

To wake up with tomorrow morning fresh spirit,

Happily alive,

Intuitively alive.

There's nothing holding you back from your restful right to sleep.

You have done enough today.

Sleep is welcoming you.

Just let go into that restful state of unconsciousness.
