In a time when so much pulls us outward.
Toward the next headline,
The next notification,
The next crisis.
It's easy to lose touch with our own center.
Just as the food we eat affects our bodies,
What we take in through our eyes and ears also impacts our nervous system.
Our sense of balance,
And our inner stability.
We'll also shift awareness to the back of the body as a way to find balance and recenter.
In a culture that moves fast and looks ahead.
Tuning into the back of the body helps us reclaim a sense of support.
Presence,
And wholeness.
Together,
We'll slow down and remember.
The center we're seeking isn't out there.
It lives within us,
Steady and accessible.
Let's get started.
Take a few moments to settle into a relaxed position.
It could be seated,
Standing,
Or lying down.
Once you're settled into your posture.
Take a moment to recognize the intention that you're making to stop or slow down.
It's not easy in this day and age that's rife with stimulation and distraction.
You might even celebrate it,
This intention to stop and slow down.
Arrive in ground even further.
By taking a few deep breaths.
Exhaling deeply or sighing.
Eventually.
Return to your natural breath.
Begin to also tune into your surroundings,
The sounds,
The movements,
The environment.
Become aware of your body and notice the parts of your body that are feeling tense or that are holding on.
Invite these parts of the body to relax,
To let go,
To soften.
Tune into your body's posture.
We're so often pulled out of our bodies and the tendency becomes to lean forward slightly into the next thing,
Into the next moment.
To counter that,
Lean slightly back.
Stacking your head over your heart and your heart over your hips if you're seated or standing.
If you're laying down,
Sink your entire back body more deeply into the ground.
Almost as if you'd like the body to imprint into the floor.
Again.
Invite your body to relax.
Bring your attention to the top of your head.
The back of your head.
And the back of your neck.
Notice any sensations you may feel in these areas.
As you scan over these parts of your body.
Notice if you can sink into them a little bit more.
Tune into the back of your shoulders.
The back of your upper arms and forearms.
The tops of your hands.
Are any sensations there attracting your attention?
Tune into your back and do the same thing.
Sensing into the upper,
Middle,
And lower back.
What sensations are present?
Next.
Tune into the back of your pelvis,
The sacrum,
The buttocks.
The back of your thighs and knees,
Your lower legs,
Your heels.
What do you feel in these areas?
You're not looking for anything in particular.
You're simply being open to whatever might be here.
Become aware of your entire back body all at once and relax.
Once again,
Notice your posture.
An energetic pull forward may still be present.
But can your renewed awareness of your entire back body bring you into balance?
Centering and grounding yourself.
Gently tune into the sounds and movements going on around you.
When you're ready,
Gently lift your gaze or open your eyes.
The pull outward may never go away,
And that's okay.
The practice isn't to eliminate it.
But to notice it without getting swept away by it.
Each time we pause,
We give ourselves a chance to return.
To our body,
To our breath.
To our center.
