Welcome to Yoga Nidra for Ostara and the Spring Equinox.
Lie down on your back in Savasana and make yourself comfortable.
The feet are apart,
The arms are slightly away from the body with the palms upward.
Close your eyes.
Give yourself some time to become calm and steady.
Take a deep breath,
And as you do so,
Feel calmness spreading throughout the body.
Consider we now a place that is void of space and time,
A gateway between the worlds.
Attune now to the blessings of nature at spring.
Keep your awareness to your breath.
Observe the pattern of your breath,
But do not alter it.
Just be aware of it.
Inhale new beginnings,
Exhale what no longer serves you.
Now silently set your resolve or sankalpa.
This is a goal or intention you wish to set for yourself.
Make this a short,
Positive statement.
You can set your own intention,
Or repeat to yourself,
I am filled with balance.
Repeat this intention to yourself three times with your full attention,
Knowing that it will take root in your consciousness and be known to the universe.
We call upon the elements of earth,
Air,
Fire,
Water,
And spirit.
We call upon the Lord and the Lady.
May they be present with you right now,
Protecting and nourishing you.
So mote it be.
Equal day and equal night,
Nature giving us insight.
Balance and harmony to all on earth,
So mote it be.
All hail the maiden of spring.
Now bring awareness to different parts of the body,
Starting from the feet and moving upwards,
Letting go of any tension.
Bring awareness to the toes,
The left toes,
The right toes,
The soles of the feet,
The tops of the feet,
The ankles,
The calves,
And the knees.
Allow them to soften and relax.
Now bring awareness to the lower back,
Middle back,
Upper back.
Allow the muscles to soften and the spine to rest.
Notice the shoulders and allow them to release any tension you might be storing.
Now the arms,
Relaxing the upper arms,
Elbows,
Forearms,
And hands.
The fingers soften and relax.
Bring awareness to the neck,
The throat.
Allow the jaw and surrounding muscles to soften.
Allow the forehead and scalp to completely relax.
Feel the body as a whole in a deep state of rest and relaxation.
Now bring awareness to the whole body and the earth,
The whole body in relation to the earth.
Become aware of the meeting points of the body and the earth.
Awareness of all the meeting points between the body and the earth,
The sensation of all points simultaneously,
Evenly.
Feel these points clearly and distinctly,
But do not go to sleep.
As you continue to breathe naturally,
Begin to notice any sensations in the body.
You might feel warmth,
Coolness,
Lightness,
Heaviness.
Simply observe these sensations without judgment or expectations.
Allow yourself to experience whatever is present,
Accepting these feelings as part of your current experience.
Imagine yourself taking a walk in a field full of flowers.
You feel protected and safe in this place.
Perhaps you notice a gentle breeze or hear the sounds of birds.
Whatever sounds you observe,
Acknowledge them and allow them to just be there,
Giving thanks for these messages from nature.
As your walk continues,
You observe an abundance of new life upon the earth,
Flowers,
Birds,
Rabbits,
Butterflies.
What are you seeing around you?
What message is nature conveying to you at this time?
Perhaps you can smell some of the flowers or you notice a particular freshness in the breeze.
At this time,
Day and night are of equal length,
Bringing balance to the earth.
Spend a moment now,
Considering that message and what balance you wish to feel in your life.
In this beautiful time of dark and light,
With this balance we find insight.
Around us now the season of spring,
Another abundance nature will soon bring.
Now recall the intention or sankalpa you set at the beginning of this practice.
Silently repeat it to yourself three times,
Mindfully,
Allowing it to deepen within you.
Gradually bring your awareness back to the present.
Feel the earth beneath you once again.
Take a moment here,
Resting.
Blessings and praise for the season of spring,
For the splendor of nature,
For new life,
For abundance,
For spirits of this land,
For the messages from those spirits,
For this time of relaxation and healing.
At your own pace,
Invite subtle movements into your fingers and toes.
Gently bring yourself into a seated position.
When you feel ready,
Open your eyes and walk in love and light the rest of your day.
Brightest blessings at the spring equinox and always.
