Begin this meditation in a position that is most comfortable for you.
Close your eyes and relax your jaw,
Your neck,
Your shoulders.
Take a few slow,
Deep breaths in and out.
And as you do,
Visualize any and all tension flowing out of your body.
Once you have fully relaxed,
Become aware of your breath.
With each inhale,
Think peace.
With each exhale,
Think protection.
Samhain,
Known by most as Halloween,
Is a time when the veil between our world and the spirit world is thinnest.
It marks the final harvest,
And it is also a time to honor our ancestors.
I invite you to envision yourself walking through a pumpkin patch just after twilight.
Perhaps you will have a flashlight or a lantern to illuminate your steps.
With each step,
It is getting even darker and more peaceful.
You feel nothing but calmness and relaxation.
The moon is shining above you,
Smiling at you,
And casting its gentle light on the rows and rows of the most beautiful pumpkins you've ever seen.
Pumpkins are associated with the moon,
The element of water,
And the planet Neptune.
They correspond with creativity,
Luck,
And for centuries,
They have been symbols of protection.
Feel that protection now,
As you move among the pumpkins.
You are fully relaxed and protected.
Led by pumpkins on this Samhain evening,
You absorb peace and calmness from them.
Your mind is clear.
You are fully at ease.
As you focus on your breath,
Continue feeling peace and protection.
As I share a Samhain poem with you,
My dear friend.
I venture out to my favorite pumpkin patch and stroll through overhanging chili ristras on my way to where the perfect pumpkin for Samhain will choose me.
Each time I go to this beautiful place,
I feel an energy that can't be sensed in the mundane world.
From the warmth of the haystacks to the smell of mulled cider cooking in a kettle,
I feel welcomed and wanted,
Chosen.
The animals here come alive and greet me.
I pause to reciprocate their kindness and all the while,
I feel a certain energy behind me.
I stand up,
Turn and see that the perfect pumpkin for Samhain has once again chosen me.
Blessed am I to hear its call.
I pick up the pumpkin and walk mindfully,
For I have been chosen.
See yourself now picking up the pumpkin.
You are able to feel and smell it.
Hold space with it for a moment and feel its protective and nourishing energy flowing into you.
Slowly return home,
Carrying the pumpkin that picked you,
While the moon and our ancestors smile at us.
With each inhale,
Think peace.
With each exhale,
Think protection.
With each step,
Recognize that you have been chosen.
At your own pace,
Begin bringing subtle movements into your fingers and toes,
And eventually into the rest of your body,
As this meditation concludes.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes and take another deep breath.
