I'm Ian Davis.
In honor of Black History Month,
I invite you into a brief,
Guided meditation practice focused on presence,
Reflection,
And well-being.
This practice is designed to create space for grounding,
Connection,
And collective breath,
Honoring the past while centering ourselves in the present moment.
Take a moment to get comfortable wherever you are.
You don't need to change anything.
Just allow yourself to settle.
Shuttering your eyes closed.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Unclench your jaw.
Let your body know it doesn't have to brace right now.
Feel your body supported.
Feel your breath moving in and out.
Steady,
Natural,
And alive.
When you're ready,
I invite you to take a slow breath in through your nose,
Expanding your chest and your belly like a balloon,
And a soft exhale down and out through the mouth.
Again,
Deep inhale in and up through the nose,
And a soft,
Slow exhale down and out through the mouth.
Slow,
Deep inhale in and up,
Receiving.
Allowing your breath to settle.
Breathing a little bit more naturally.
And as you breathe,
You are not here alone.
Know that you carry the breath of those who came before you.
Know that the ancestors who dreamed,
Endured,
Created,
Resisted,
And loved often in the face of unimaginable odds.
Know that with every inhale,
Imagine drawing into their strength.
And with every exhale,
Imagine releasing what no longer needs to be carried.
With every breath,
You embrace and embody black history.
It lives in your posture.
Your presence alone is power.
And when you're ready,
I invite you now to notice your heartbeat,
The rhythm of your pulse.
Your pulse is a continuation and a reminder that survival itself is sacred.
For the next couple of moments,
I invite you to just allow yourself to be present with the beating of your heart here.
Continuing to be present with your heart.
Now let's honor black joy.
The joy that laughed in the midst of struggle.
The joy that danced,
Sang,
And created new worlds.
The joy that reminded us we are more than what tried to limit us.
I invite you to bring to mind a moment that you've experienced of joy,
Big or small.
Let this joy rise gently in your body.
No forcing,
No fixing.
Just allowing it to rise,
Allowing yourself to notice it rise.
Be with that joy.
I invite you now to give yourself permission to rest.
Take a moment to rest.
Rest is not weakness,
It's revolutionary.
Rest is a radical return to self.
When you're ready,
I invite you to repeat the following phrases quietly to yourself.
I honor where I come from.
I move forward with presence,
Pride,
And peace.
I move forward with presence,
Pride,
And peace.
I move forward with presence,
Pride,
And peace.
I'm grounded in who I am.
I move forward with presence,
Pride,
And peace.
When you're ready,
Let's take one big deep inhale in and up through your nose,
Expanding that chest and that belly like a balloon.
Slowly letting it go down and out,
Exhaling through your mouth.
When you're ready,
I invite you to slowly bring some movement back into your body,
Wiggling your fingertips or your toes,
Maybe rolling your neck,
Your wrists,
Or your shoulders,
And fluttering your eyes open,
Bringing yourself back into the space that you're in.
Know that you are allowed to pause.
You're allowed to breathe.
Black history isn't just something we read about.
It's something we live.
It lives in creativity.
It lives in courage.
It lives in community.
And it lives in joy.
Thank you for taking this moment to pause and reflect with me.
I invite you to carry this sense of presence,
Care,
And connection into the rest of your day,
Your week,
The moments to come,
And the moments to come beyond this month.
Have an amazing day.
Be well.
Stay mindful.
Peace.
