Hello,
My name is Kari and today I want to just spend a few minutes talking to you about how to check in.
Lots of times you'll hear in meditation,
Close your eyes and check in with yourself,
But often it's not really explained.
What does it mean to check in?
The first thing that comes to me is that it gives you an opportunity to observe what's going on inside of your body.
What's happening with your breathing,
What's happening with your thoughts.
Checking in is a moment to try and just be still and quiet and take all of your focus and attention onto the inside of your being.
Just by observing your breath for a few moments,
Slowing your breathing down,
Starting to allow your mind to scan over your body.
And what that means is allow your mind to just take you through your body.
If you don't force anything and you let your mind just travel through your legs,
Your arms,
Your torso,
What it's doing is actually it's being drawn to different parts of you internally that might be feeling certain sensations.
So if you just close your eyes and let yourself settle in,
What that means is soften yourself.
Soften your muscles,
Slow down your breathing and let your mind observe your body.
Maybe it goes to the back of your neck because there's some tension there.
Maybe your mind settles on your abdomen because you have unsettled feelings or emotions in your stomach.
To check in,
It just means you're taking a minute to say to yourself,
Where am I?
How do I feel?
What's going on inside of me?
It's a really easy,
Quick meditation process that you can do at any time of the day.
It's beneficial if you do it first thing in the morning.
It can help you establish maybe knowing where you are in your mood,
Where you are in your energy level and then therefore you can take action to change it if it isn't so great.
But if you just ignore your body and you ignore the way that you feel inside,
The things that you're thinking,
Then it's like you're giving permission to something else outside of yourself controlling how you feel versus checking in,
Quieting everything down,
Observing and making an assessment of how you feel and then following that with action.
What can you do to change how you feel?
To feel more awake or to feel more happy or to feel more energized?
What can you do?
Use the check in meditation to be more in your power,
To have more awareness,
To be more conscious.
Try it.
Just take two or three minutes every day to sit down,
To slow down your breathing,
Close your eyes and let your mind travel through your body and assess where you are right there in that moment.
Just take the next two minutes to check in.
All right,
Good night.
You One moment,
Ed.
One moment,
Ed.
Now assess how you feel,
What you observed inside of your mind and your body.
And that's it.
That's all you have to do to check in.
Namaste,
My friend.
Namaste.
