Ellie had a new kitten.
His name was Winston.
He was only 10 weeks old.
Winston,
Over the two weeks that Ellie had had him,
Had decided that he liked to sleep with Ellie.
He had two different beds.
A very plush soft bed in Ellie's bedroom and a big big squishy foamy comfortable bed in the living room.
He didn't want either of those.
He wanted to sleep with Ellie on her bed.
So this had become the normal thing for them to do together.
Winston was black.
All black with green eyes.
He was very very cute.
If you looked really really close at his fur,
It looked like he could be,
When he got older,
A black tabby.
Because there was the slightest stripes in his fur that indicated he could possibly be a tabby when he got older.
But Ellie didn't know what kind of cat Winston was because they got Winston from the pound.
So it was like a lucky guess.
Who knows what Winston's going to be when he gets older.
But that's half the fun of it,
Right?
Something strange had happened the last couple of nights.
Ellie had been having this particular dream over and over again for the last three nights.
It was the most amazing dream.
She loved it.
But she wasn't sure if it was her dream or not.
How can you dream someone else's dream?
I know,
That's pretty strange.
But she was so certain that she was dreaming Winston's dream.
She was tagging along,
Taking a ride,
In Winston's mind every night when they went to bed.
And Winston had a really,
Really good imagination.
And they were going to a very,
Very awesome place.
On this particular night,
Ellie had just fallen asleep.
Because she'd fallen asleep,
She didn't know that Winston was watching her very closely.
And when it looked like her breathing had changed,
And her eyes were flickering a little bit as if she was already dreaming,
Winston settled down into the space between her armpit,
Put his head,
His little kitten head,
On her chest,
Closed his eyes,
And started to go to sleep.
Winston made the cutest little kitten noises when he was asleep.
But Ellie didn't see them,
Or hear them,
Because she was already fast asleep.
And then Ellie found herself at the kitten park.
It looked like a regular park that you would go to.
It had swings,
A slide,
It had an area that had a spinny roundabout on it.
It had these small seats that you could sit on that spun around.
It had an overhead rope thing that you could hold onto that slid from one side to the other.
It also had like a big,
Big climbing frame.
It looked like a regular,
Quite decent,
Kid park you would go to and play.
But the difference with this park,
The difference that Ellie saw for the last three nights of dreaming,
Was that this park was absolutely jam-packed full of kittens.
Everywhere.
On the slide,
On the swings,
On the roundabout.
They were hanging on the rope and swinging from one side of the park to the other.
They were sitting on those little swingy chairs,
Spinning each other around.
Some of them were flying off at points.
There must have been 200 kittens,
Easy,
At this park.
And as soon as Ellie and Winston got there,
They ran across the grass towards the park.
And then they played.
They played with all the kittens.
Sometimes Ellie would lay on the roundabout.
At least 30 kittens would climb all over Ellie,
Snuggling in,
Playing with her,
Wanting to kiss her and play.
And snuggle.
All of the little kittens,
Ellie noticed,
Had different kitten smells.
Some of them smelt,
To her,
Like butter.
Some of them smelt like,
Like,
Like laundry detergent.
Some of the kittens smelt like cotton candy.
Some of them,
One of them,
It was a tiny little blonde-haired kitten.
It was like a gingery blonde colour.
It was definitely a tabby.
That one,
For some reason,
Smelt like strawberries.
She thought that that one was probably one of her favourites.
It was so,
So cute.
A blonde,
Ginger,
Tabby kitten.
And it had bright orange fiery eyes.
And it smelt like strawberries.
There was another one of the kittens,
And she did not understand why.
But she figured out it was a boy.
He smelt like cucumbers.
Cucumbers.
Literally,
She had to smell him a couple of times.
She kept picking him up and smelling him.
Yep,
That's definitely cucumber.
How strange is that?
That all of these little kittens had their own smell.
But what was even funnier was their smells actually seemed to match their personalities.
How weird is that?
There was one kitten that smelt like chocolate.
Milk chocolate.
Not dark chocolate.
Milk chocolate.
Ellie kept sniffing it over and over again.
It smelt good enough to eat.
And it was the cutest,
Happiest little kitten ever.
It was a brown kitten.
And it was so tiny,
She could have been like a little chocolate button all on her own.
If anyone liked kittens,
Can you imagine what they would have thought of this place?
Hundreds of tiny little cute kittens all over,
Playing.
Slippy sliding down the slide.
Climbing on top of each other.
Rolling around and playing in the grass.
It was so fun to just sit and watch them.
Ellie was sat on the grass with Winston.
And they were watching some of the kittens chasing butterflies.
There was a yellow butterfly that kept coming close to them.
As if it was teasing them on a purpose.
And the tiny little kittens would go on their little legs and jump.
And reach up and try and paw at the butterfly.
They were never fast enough.
The butterfly was obviously an expert at playing with kittens and not getting hurt.
Not that the kittens would hurt the butterfly.
Because maybe the kittens just wanted to play.
At one point Ellie laid down in the dream.
Winston was behind her playing with her hair.
And all of the little kittens,
So many of them,
Came and climbed all over her.
Some of them fell asleep on her tummy.
Some of the kittens were playing with the shoelaces on her shoes.
She had ties on her sweatshirt.
And some of them were playing with the strings on her sweatshirt.
It was like kitten heaven.
The bestest place to go to get so many kitten hugs and squeezes.
On this particular day,
In this particular dream of Winston's.
The sun was nice and warm.
It was shining down on the park.
Shining down on the grass.
The grass smelt like it had been freshly mowed.
So there was a smell of fresh cut grass in the air.
And the sun was shining down on them.
And there was a slight breeze blowing through the trees in the park.
That made a lovely,
Relaxing,
Rustling sound.
All the little kitten noises and the different smells and flavours of what they smelt like.
Was in the air,
All around Ellie.
She was so happy and so comfortable that she ended up closing down her eyes.
When she closed her eyes,
At first she was paying attention to the fact that her feet were being pulled in different directions.
So many kittens pulling on her laces,
Playing.
It made her smile.
But the tugging on her feet,
Moving sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right,
Felt quite relaxing.
As if her feet were doing windscreen wiper movements from left to right.
Over and over again.
And it was comfortable.
Comfortable.
It felt very soothing and calming to know that she was surrounded by all of these cute little kittens.
Which helped her body feel more relaxed.
The soft grass as she laid down felt really good underneath her body.
The smells in the air.
The sunshine on her face.
She could feel little kittens walking over the bottoms of her legs.
Occasionally.
Not too often,
But very occasionally.
One of the tiny little kitten claws would cut through something on her clothing and she'd feel a tiny scratch.
But it wasn't anything big or bad.
Tiny,
Tiny little kitten claws don't do that much damage.
She could feel the kittens walking on her thighs.
Her thighs felt really soft and relaxed.
Like she had all of the company in the world.
She could feel the kittens walking on her tummy.
Across her chest.
All over her arms.
It felt like one of them was chewing and sucking on one of her little fingers.
As if it was confused and it thought it was a bottle or something.
As if it was confused and it thought it was a bottle or something.
Or it's mummy's teat.
Just nuzzling away on her.
And this felt very calming and relaxing also.
She was in kitten heaven.
These kitten dreams were the bestest thing ever.
She loved them so much.
It had gotten to the point where she couldn't wait to go to sleep at night because she knew she was going to have one of Winston's dreams.
And Winston had some seriously good kitten dreams.
Who doesn't love kittens?
Who doesn't love the sun?
Who doesn't love fresh cut grass?
Who doesn't love playing in the park?
Who doesn't love the smell of chocolate?
The smell of cotton candy?
Even the smell of cucumbers?
Everything about Winston's dreams was just perfect.
And as she laid there thinking about that,
She got even more sleepier.
Even more relaxed.
Even more relaxed.
Her shoulders relaxed.
Her hands,
Her fingers relaxed.
Her arms got super,
Super heavy as she relaxed her arms.
Her legs were heavy and relaxed.
Her body felt heavy and relaxed.
Her head was very,
Very heavy and relaxed.
Her entire body felt happy,
Cozy,
Relaxed and extremely comfortable there in the kitten park with all of these hundreds of kittens.
At one point she recognised the smell of Winston.
He must have been close by.
And the soothing smell of her favourite new kitten made her fall even more into a comfortable,
Relaxed state.
She could feel that the park and the kittens and everything was drifting away as she got deeper and deeper into her own relaxed body.
She was definitely falling to sleep.
The world around her was slipping away,
Disappearing into the background.
Disappearing into the background.
And she felt like she was falling deeper and deeper into a blissful sleep.
Where she could have stayed.
Forever and a day.
