Making Space For All Of Our Feelings Throughout Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of deep metamorphose. It can be a time of excitement and joy, it also has the capacity to bring our deepest fears to the surface. In mother nature´s wisdom, she brings up old wounds that are ready to be seen and healed. It is only by being willing to see and hold these emotions that they can be released. In doing so, we are supporting the facilitation of our own transformation and healing parts of ourselves that we don´t have to pass onto our children.

Hello and welcome to day two of Nurtured Mama.

I want to share a short story about a yoga experience that I had.

It was a trauma-informed mind-body yoga class and my teacher at the time said something that has stuck with me until this day.

She said,

Only to the depths that you're willing to feel great sadness,

To that same extent,

Will you be able to experience great joy?

Because we don't get to pick and choose,

We just decide on the level and it is only to that level that we can feel.

So when we're willing to feel all of our feelings,

We get to have maybe the depth of sadness,

But we also,

In doing so and being willing to feel those feelings,

We get to feel them and release them and we also get to experience deep,

Deep joy.

So I'd like you to go ahead and close your eyes if you're in a space where you're able to do so.

And I invite you to sit down and just start to feel whatever is beneath you.

Start to notice your breath.

Start to become more aware of your internal world.

If there's thoughts that are going on,

Go ahead and release them.

You can release them out now and pick them up later if you decide to.

But for this short moments,

Let's go ahead and give them permission to just go.

And as you start to drop more into your body,

Start to notice how you're feeling.

Are you excited?

Are you relaxed?

Are you tired?

Is there fear there?

Is there anxiety?

Whatever feelings are there.

I'd like you to become more aware,

Whether it's something that's wanted or unwanted.

Imagine yourself holding this,

Holding this emotion as you would a baby,

Just bringing your attention to it and continuing to hold it and breathe it,

Breathe with it.

And now as you're holding this emotion,

This feeling,

Go ahead and wrap a cord from your tailbone down into the ground.

You can imagine a root growing down into Mother Earth,

All the way down to the center of the earth and feeling the steadfastness of Mother Earth,

The support she offers,

The groundedness.

She has the capacity to support you in carrying whatever this is,

Whether it's joy,

Whether it's excitement,

Whether there's fear,

Sadness.

There's so much change taking place right now.

Connect with Mother Earth because she understands this.

Life moves in cycles and with the death of some things comes the birth of new life.

Imagine yourself breathing through that root.

See Mother Earth breathing with you.

Feel her energy coming up into you,

Up into the core of your body,

To your base chakra,

All the way up through your spine and coming out through the top of your head.

Now imagine your breath going up into the heavens.

Imagine light coming up through the top of your head,

Expanding out up into the center of the universe,

Almost like a funnel.

And as you breathe,

Imagine this light coming up and down with your breath.

And with each breath,

Light continues to enter in through your body.

As the energies from Mother Earth and Father Sky enter into your body,

It starts to wrap around you,

Around this emotion that you've been holding.

And eventually you realize that this emotion is part of one beautiful mosaic of light,

That it's not separate from.

And you recognize the oneness that we are a part of.

Just take a few moments to just bask in this oneness,

In this light that surrounds you,

That surrounds all of your emotional body,

That merges with who you are,

With the emotions you're feeling,

That merges with the child growing within you.

As you recognize what an honor and a responsibility and what an integral part of life you are.

And I invite you to again start to become aware of whatever is beneath you.

If your feet are on the floor,

Notice and feel that connection.

If you're sitting on a chair or a cushion,

Just notice that physical connection and be grateful for that simple support,

For a place to sit.

And then slowly start to just become more aware again of your breathing,

Of your body.

And I invite you to call in this centering thought for the day,

That I am one with the light.

And whenever feelings of doubt come in,

Feelings of fear,

Feelings of being alone,

Remember the truth,

That we are all interconnected.

And when you're feeling feelings of joy,

Of happiness,

Again remember this light that we're connected to and that joy or that love will become amplified.

And as you go out into your day,

Remember to stay connected to this light because it is the truth of who you are.

Thank you for joining us and we will see you again tomorrow to nurture ourselves so that we can take care of ourselves and have more to share with those around us.
