In our busy lives, we can find ourselves endlessly juggling demands on our time and energy; lots of to do's, duties and responsibilities to attend to. In these difficult times, we are living through where everything is speeded up and time seems so short it can all feel rather overwhelming.
Kindness isn’t another thing to achieve, or some impossible ideal of awakened serenity that we ought to be attaining. Kindness is a loving presence that is waiting to be invited into our lives, to calm and soothe, to bring comfort and solace, to remind you that you are loved and that love seeks you. Kindness isn’t unusual, special, or remarkable. It does not ask anything of us other than to live open to its warmth, security, and aliveness in all of the ordinary moments of our ordinary lives – especially the difficult ones, that is where kindness seeks us most.
This course will help you to make kindness a way of life and invite its presence into your life and the lives of those around you. During the sessions, we will look at kindness from different perspectives, how we can engage with it in different parts of our lives, who we can be kind to, and why it matters.
Each session consists of a reflection on a particular theme and then a Peacebeam meditation. There is room for journaling if you would like to bring your notebook but equally, you can use those periods for quiet reflection. You might want to listen to the sessions at the end of the day, perhaps just before bed when you have a little time to yourself, so that the gentle presence of kindness can be with you while you sleep.
At Peacebeam, we are kindness evangelists, so much so that we have developed a currency of kindness and a theory around the social impact of kindness. We believe that when mindfulness and meditation are combined with kindness and action, it becomes a more complete practice for relieving stress, anxiety, and building resilience and connection.
To give from a place of abundance brings immense joy, connection, meaning, and a sense of purpose. This is our form of activism....
Lição 1
What Is Kindness?
In this session, we look at what kindness means to you. We consider the objective and subjective naure of acts of kindness and the incredible freedom that choosing kindness gives us. We will meditate on your experiences of kindness and create the space to enter into that refreshing beauty.
Lição 2
Why Does Kindness Matter?
In this session, we explore the background philosophies on kindness, the neuroscience on the effects of kindness, and we spend time in meditation on why kindness matters to each of us personally.
Lição 3
What Can Kindness Do?
In this session, we consider our brains. Kindness has a very concrete space in the brain. It shares the same neural networks as empathy and compassion. Empathy identifies needs and kindness translates this sensation into a spontaneous acting to promote good, to relieve the need. The goal of this mechanism is to bind the human being to the human community – it makes us understand that we need each other, that we are stronger when we are together.
Lição 4
Who Can I Be Kind To?
This is a big question. Who and what is in our lives that invites our kindness? In this session, we consider two categories, the self and others, and meditate on both of them.
Lição 5
Who & What Can I Be Kind To?
The last 50 years has seen an unparalleled species decline and our activity on this planet directly impacts the lives and flourishing of the creatures that call earth home too. We continue with our exploration of the categories of kindness and consider how we can be kind to animals and the planet.
Lição 6

Habitual kindness to ourselves and others is key to community building. This simple, straightforward series reminds me not only to be kind but to seek kindness, and let go of spaces where kindness is so easily dismissed or diminished on purpose.
