Most of us know that when we feel happy we smile. In this session we learn that the opposite is true too! When we smile we feel happy and we make the world around us more beautiful and lovely. An optional exercise is to make a smile jar and at the end of each day write down the things that made you laugh or smile and keep them in a jar so that you can take them out and remind yourself when you are feeling a little down.

Hi,

Welcome to Peacebeam.

Let's begin.

Just make sure that you are sitting or lying down very comfortably,

That you're warm enough,

And just close your eyes,

And for the next few minutes,

Just relax and follow my voice as we start with step one notice.

And you'll remember that this is the time that we check in with ourselves and we ask ourselves how we're feeling today.

So just hold that question,

How am I today,

And see what comes back.

Are you feeling happy or sad?

Are you feeling anxious or stressed or perhaps relaxed,

Whatever it is,

Just notice it.

Everything is fine.

And now we'll move to step two,

Breathe.

This is where we bring our attention to our breathing.

So just start to notice now how the air moves in and out through your nose and mouth,

And how that feels.

And if you like,

You can put your hand on your chest now and you can feel the rise and fall of your chest as your breath moves in and out.

And now I'd like you to imagine that every time you breathe in,

You're breathing in this beautiful golden light that travels all the way down into your lungs and then into your heart.

And every time you breathe in,

Your whole heart,

The centre of your chest,

Lights up.

And every time you breathe out,

You're breathing this beautiful golden light out into the world.

And now your heartbeat and your breath are greeting each other,

Saying hello.

And when they join together like this,

It creates a beautiful,

Still,

Peaceful place for you to be in and relax.

As we move now to step three,

Activate.

Today we're going to think about your smile.

Most of us know that when we feel happy,

We smile.

Perhaps you're smiling now,

Listening.

But an interesting thing is that the reverse is also true,

That smiling can make us happy.

When we smile,

We release special chemicals in our brain called hormones,

Things like dopamine and serotonin.

And these boost our mood,

Making us feel happier,

Less stressed.

And it even makes us healthier because it improves our immune system.

So this means that when you smile,

When you smile as another person and they smile back,

You are genuinely spreading happiness in the world.

It isn't always easy to smile,

Especially when we're having a bad day.

And so one thing that you might like to do is to make a smile jar.

And how this works is that every day,

Usually in the evening,

But you can do it in the morning or whenever it feels right for you,

Write down one or two things on a small piece of paper that have made you smile and put those pieces of paper into your jar.

And that way,

When you're feeling low or it hasn't been such a great day,

You can open the jar and be reminded of all of the things that have made you smile.

And this will then make you smile and it will make you feel much happier.

Step four,

Peace beam.

So now I'd like you to think of something that has really made you smile.

Maybe it's something really funny that's happened or something really lovely,

Unhappy.

Just think of that now.

And smile.

And as you're smiling,

You're creating beautiful energy that's moving out into the world today.

So keep that smile on your face and let everybody's day be chill and cheered up by your lovely smiling face.

Thank you for listening and we shall see you the next time.
