How sweet the music of the rain,
At evening or morn,
When clouds of trails that reach the ground Pass over fields of corn.
Man's work is done,
The toiling days of heat And anxious care are ended,
When the falling rain,
With music,
Fills the air.
There's something healing in being in the low times,
In being with that energy,
Without fighting it.
And there's the saying that no storm lasts forever.
While this is very true,
It doesn't mean that we need to wait for the storm to end.
When water collects in low places,
Sometimes we just need to fill our cup and rest.
And a good rain shower can clear us of anything that we don't need right now.
So I invite you to join me in the rain,
To simply be with all that comes.
Perhaps the rain and thunder can guide us to a deeper sense of presence and peace.
So beginning by finding your home for this meditation,
You might wish to lay down for this one,
Or you can sit down in a way that feels comfortable.
Begin by taking a nice deep breath in,
Breathing out,
And allowing your whole body to drop down into the surface that you're resting on.
Relaxing your shoulders,
Your forehead,
Your eyes,
Softening your eyelids,
Your cheeks,
Relaxing your jaw,
Moving down to your neck,
Relaxing the back of your neck,
And your shoulders,
Allowing gravity to do its work,
Feeling it through your arms,
Letting your arms drop,
Allowing your hands to sink down,
Relaxing the whole of your back,
Moving round to your chest,
Feeling your breath expanding and contracting your ribs for a moment,
And then down to your belly,
A place where you can store a bit of anxiety,
A bit of tension,
Imagine breathing down into it,
And out again,
Then relaxing your upper legs,
Letting them sink a little bit deeper,
Your thigh muscles,
All the way down to your shins,
And relaxing your calf muscles as well,
Your ankles,
And your feet,
Relaxing the soles of your feet,
Or your toes,
Letting your whole body become soft and loose,
Listening to the rain,
Listening with your whole body,
And with each moment that passes,
Dropping a little deeper into presence,
Giving yourself permission to let life be for this time,
Allowing the rain to wash away anything that you don't need,
Gently softening to anything that arises,
Being low with the low times,
Finding your ground again,
Perhaps the rain just creates a blanket of safety,
So you can feel what you feel,
Maybe some peace can be found here,
Allowing the rain to cleanse you,
Perhaps heal anything that needs healing,
And with each rumble of thunder,
Letting that be a reminder,
That it's ok to be low in low times,
That it's ok to be who you are,
And that you are enough,
Just as you are right now,
And as the rain eases,
The sun comes out,
And there's a new beginning,
And that new beginning may have some plans for another storm,
And that's ok,
You know what to do,
And now taking a nice deep breath in,
Breathing out,
And gently opening your eyes as we end this meditation,
