Fall Asleep Amongst The Stars

In this gentle practice, I invite you to offer kindness to yourself and others who are in search of a good night's sleep. Along the way, we'll bring space and stillness into our bodies, as we embrace the mystery and wonder of the night. Music composed by Andy Hobson

Now I invite you to let go of your day and let sleep find you.

Gently closing your eyes and listening to your body for a moment,

Noticing if it needs to get a little more comfortable.

So find a comfortable position that feels soothing and relaxing.

This may be on your back,

On your side or even curled up in a ball.

Whatever feels right for you right now.

Now taking a few deep breaths all the way down into your belly as this gives your body a little message that all is well.

And even if your mind is going at 100 miles per hour or perhaps your life situation isn't how you'd like it right now,

Know that deep down it's okay.

This is your time to rest,

To be with yourself,

With kindness,

No matter what's happening.

Relaxing your whole body now.

Relaxing your head,

Your face,

Relaxing your neck allowing it to soften.

Relaxing your arms and your hands,

Your fingers and your fingertips.

Relaxing your upper and lower back,

Your chest and your abdomen.

Allowing your legs and feet to sink more into your bed,

Allowing them to relax.

And letting go a little more.

Being held and safe where you rest.

Now gently bringing your awareness away from that busy mind and down to your chest and belly rising and falling as you breathe.

Continuing to let go with each out-breath,

Letting your body sink deeper and deeper into your bed.

And as you lay here,

Know that you're not alone.

Know that you also join millions of others in this human experience.

And if you want to,

You can give a smile for all the other members of the Wide Awake Club.

Bringing your awareness to your heart space.

And send all the other satellites out there a caring nod to say,

It's okay,

We're in this together.

And now imagine everyone who is lying awake tonight and seeking sleep as a star in the night sky.

Sharing the same human experience as you.

The same worries and certainties.

We're all connected,

Forged by the stars,

All from the same source.

Now imagine all these stars,

Your fellow travellers of the night,

Shining brighter and brighter as you breathe in.

And each time you breathe out,

Your body sinks down a little more into your bed.

And as you breathe in,

These stars in the night sky get brighter and brighter.

And as you breathe out,

Sinking deeper and deeper.

Feeling safe and held.

Breathing in,

It gets brighter and brighter.

And the light from these stars washes away all your fears,

Your self doubts,

Anything that troubles you right now.

Breathing out,

A sense of surrender washing over you as your body sinks deeper and deeper.

Breathing in,

So bright now,

Your fears and self doubts,

All your worries washed away.

Breathing out,

Falling further,

Going deeper.

And now,

As you continue to breathe naturally,

All there is,

Is light.

No single star visible.

Only surrendering to the stillness of the night,

Knowing that sleep will come when it's time.

And noticing the stillness in your body,

Becoming aware of the stillness and space there.

Becoming very still.

As your breathing,

Moving your body as it rises and falls.

So much stillness that can cradle and hold everything.

Any difficult thought or worry,

Strong emotion,

Really feeling that space in your body.

And as you continue to fall deeper and deeper.

Moving space into any last areas of tension.

These might be where thoughts are stuck,

They've been awoken by the night.

Offering them space,

Leaving them be.

Feeling so heavy,

So at ease.

Feeling the weight of your body going down,

Down into your bed.

Letting go.

Letting go.

Knowing that the bright stars of the night sky can hold it all.

And allowing awareness to sense your whole body,

The space around it.

Feeling your body and the space around it as energy.

Just energy.

Feeling its new vibration.

The vibration of rest.

The vibration of the unconscious and the conscious meeting together.

Moving through space and time.

As your mind and body gently join the mystery and wonder of the night.

And your body is almost invisible now.

All you can feel is comfort and warmth,

Lightness and space.

And allowing your body to continue to dissolve into the warmth,

The expanse,

The space around it.

Feeling so relaxed.

Breathing.

Sinking deeper and deeper.

Letting go and gravity to gently send you off into a deep,

Deep sleep.

And now I'm going to count down from 10 to 1.

With each number I count.

Feeling more and more relaxed.

With each number sinking deeper and deeper into your bed.

Into a deep,

Deep sleep.
