Welcome to this sensory awareness practice dedicated especially to you as a pet parent.
Whether it is a cat,
A dog,
A rabbit,
A horse or some other animal that lives in your heart.
My name is Biggie Junge.
I'm a dog trainer and behavior consultant as well as a coach for dog guardians.
Join me in this meditation to release tension and restore calm.
To shift your body from alert and tight to spacious and more at ease.
Find a comfortable seat or stand wherever you feel supported.
Your pet may be nearby,
Watching,
Resting or moving around.
Notice them without needing anything from them right now.
Take a moment to settle your attention on your breath.
Breathe in and out.
Notice the natural rhythm.
In and out.
In and out.
And now allow your exhale to lengthen slightly.
Breathe in and exhale slowly and just a little longer than before.
With each breath,
Feel your shoulders,
Jaw and chest releasing tension.
Let your body become heavier.
Resting into the support beneath you.
You are being supported.
The earth carries your weight.
Now gently begin to expand your awareness beyond yourself.
Notice the room around you.
The light,
The colours,
Shapes,
Any textures you can see.
Next,
Shift your attention to sound.
Notice three sounds without judgement.
Perhaps it's your pet's breathing,
Distant traffic or the hum of something electrical like the fridge.
Now bring your awareness to your body and feel three sensations.
Maybe your feet on the floor or your chair supporting you.
Maybe your hands resting in your lap or on your thighs.
Or maybe the sensation of your clothes on your skin.
Take another slow breath in and a longer exhale out.
And notice how your body feels as your senses widen.
Notice without trying to control anything.
Just allow yourself to be present.
Animals often respond to the energy and presence we carry.
By softening your focus and opening your senses,
You are creating a calmer,
More spacious environment for both yourself and your pet.
Take another deep breath in and a soft,
Long exhale.
If your pet is close by,
Notice them now.
Their small movements,
Their breathing,
Their presence in the space you share.
Even a single glance or rapport can carry connection.
Remember,
Widening your awareness doesn't mean adding stress or pressure.
You don't have to do anything.
It's a gentle expansion,
A softening of the mind,
A quiet letting go of tension.
Take one final breath in and as you end this practice,
Carry this sense of openness and calm with you.
Notice your pet,
Notice yourself.
You are here together,
In this shared space.
There is ease,
Connection and presence.
