Welcome.
This is a short meditation for moments when money worries begin to take over your mind.
Perhaps you're lying awake at night,
Replying numbers and possibilities.
Perhaps your thoughts keep returning to the same questions.
Will I be able to pay my rent?
Will there be enough to buy food?
How will this all work out?
If you know that feeling,
You're not alone.
Money anxiety has a very particular way of pulling the mind into the future,
Searching for certainty that isn't available yet.
And the more the mind tries to solve everything at once,
The more tense the body becomes.
This short practice is an invitation to step out of that spiral for a few minutes.
Not by solving the problem right now,
But by giving your nervous system a moment of steadiness.
So take a moment to settle.
If you can,
Allow your body to sit comfortably.
And if it feels safe,
Close your eyes.
Take a slow breath in and let it go again.
Nothing needs to be solved right now.
This is simply a space to breathe,
To pause,
And to be here.
Let your breathing return to its natural rhythm.
Breathe in and breathe out.
You might notice that your mind is still busy.
Thoughts about money may continue to appear.
That's okay.
The goal here is not to force the mind to be quiet.
Instead,
We're practicing something different.
Imagine you're sitting beside a gently flowing river.
The water moves steadily past you,
Sometimes quickly,
Sometimes more slowly.
The river represents the stream of thoughts moving through your mind.
Worries about money,
Predictions about the future,
Memories of past experiences,
All of it moving like water.
But notice where you are.
You are sitting on the riverbank.
The ground beneath you is steady.
You are not in the current.
You're simply sitting beside it,
Watching the water flow.
Let the river flow.
Stay on the bank.
Thoughts may pass through your mind like leaves drifting down the river.
You don't need to grab at every leaf.
You can simply watch them flow by.
Nothing needs to be solved right now.
Just this breath.
Feel the air entering your body and leaving it again.
With each exhale,
Allow your shoulders to soften slightly,
Your face to relax,
And feel the support beneath you.
Even while the river moves,
The ground beneath you remains steady.
And this moment,
This simple moment of breathing,
Is real.
The future is not here yet.
The past is already gone.
Right now,
There's only this one breath.
Let the river flow.
Stay on the bank.
You might notice that even a few minutes of stepping out of the current begins to change the experience.
Your mind may still produce worries,
But there's just a little more space around them,
A little more room to breathe.
This is the skill this meditation is designed to cultivate.
Learning how to sit beside the river of worry instead of being swept away by it.
If this short practice felt helpful,
You might enjoy exploring the full series.
In my course Steady Ground Short Meditations for Money Anxiety,
We go deeper into several practices that help ease money anxiety.
You will find it among courses here on Insight Timer.
Together,
We'll learn how to pause the urgency to fix everything immediately.
How to soften the physical tension that financial stress creates in the body.
How to see anxious thoughts for what they really are.
Thoughts,
Not predictions.
How to reconnect with your own resilience and inner resources.
And finally,
How to shift the mind from constant scarcity toward noticing what is already here and supporting you.
Each meditation builds on the last,
Creating a steady pace you can return to whenever worry begins to take over.
For now,
Take one more slow breath and gently bring your awareness back to the room around you.
This moment is enough.
Everything changes.
And you have what you need to meet what comes.
Let the river flow.
Stay on the bank.
I hope to meet you soon in the course.
Bye for now.
