If you're listening while resting in a sauna or warm room,
Take a moment to settle in.
You can shift or stop at any time.
You've chosen to pause for a few minutes,
To sit with the heat,
To notice what your body is experiencing right now.
It may help to name something here.
Taking time to pause and regulate your nervous system can help it settle.
Moments like this are supportive.
In many ways,
Self-care is health care.
If the mind begins to rush ahead or think about what comes next,
You can simply notice that and gently remind yourself,
I'm allowed to care for my body.
Take a gentle breath in and a longer breath out.
Notice the surface beneath you,
The bench or seat supporting you.
You might sense the weight of your hips settling.
You're back resting,
Your feet meeting the floor,
Allowing your body to be supported.
Now begin noticing the heat around you,
The air touching the skin,
Perhaps along the shoulders,
The arms,
The chest,
The legs.
You may notice the temperature deepening slowly as you sit here.
There's nothing you need to change,
Just noticing how the body experiences the heat.
Simply sitting with sensation,
Observing the body the way you might watch weather pass through.
You may begin to notice the body responding,
Small beads of sweat forming on the skin,
Perhaps even tiny rivulets rolling along the shoulders,
The chest,
Or the back.
Just noticing those sensations,
Skin meeting the air.
You might even notice the pulse of circulation,
Perhaps in the chest,
The temples,
Or the hands.
Energy moving through the system.
You might notice how the heat slowly sinks in,
Softening muscles,
Loosening places that may have been holding.
Sometimes people sense a little releasing here,
The small tensions that gathered through the day,
The subtle holding in the shoulders or jaw.
As the body adjusts,
You may notice softening and releasing in its own way,
Little by little.
Now gently include the natural rhythm of the body,
Just noticing the quiet rise and fall of the breath.
Perhaps the chest expanding slightly or the belly softening or gently lifting.
Air moving in and flowing out again.
You might begin to sense a quiet rhythm forming between the body and the heat around you,
Allowing,
Softening,
Releasing.
If pain or discomfort is present somewhere in the body,
That's okay too.
You're not trying to fix it,
Just noticing what is here,
Sitting with sensation.
You might remind yourself quietly,
Sensations are safe to notice right now.
Your attention can move gently through the body,
Perhaps noticing the temperature on the skin,
The rise and fall of breathing,
Or the steady support beneath you.
You may also notice sounds in the room,
Perhaps the quiet background music,
The sound of my voice,
Or the subtle stillness of the space around you.
And you might notice scent as well,
The warm air or the subtle smell of heated wood.
Let sounds and scents come and go.
Nothing you need to hold on to,
Just letting experience move through in its own way.
If it feels comfortable,
You might explore a small shift in posture.
Maybe rolling the shoulders slightly,
Letting the neck soften,
Or adjusting how your feet rest on the floor.
You might even try a tiny stretch through your fingers or a small movement of the jaw or face,
Just noticing what feels natural for the body.
Slow movements,
Unhurried.
Then allowing stillness again.
You might notice how the body responds after even a small movement.
Now letting your attention widen a little.
Sensing the temperature around you,
The natural rhythm of breathing,
The support beneath you,
The quiet space around you.
Your body can experience many sensations at once.
Even with pain present,
There may also be heat,
Support,
And moments of softening.
You might notice that not every sensation needs your attention.
Let all of that exist together.
Simply sitting here for a few more moments,
Resting in the heat,
Noticing the quiet rhythm of the body,
Letting the body soften and release in its own time.
There's nothing else you need to do right now,
Just resting here for a few quiet moments.
And when your body feels ready,
You can slowly rise.
Whenever you step out,
You might notice the cooler air touching your skin,
A gentle contrast after the heat.
Just noticing how your body responds as you return to the rest of your day.
