Hi friend,
I'm glad you're here.
For many of us,
The evening just disappears.
Into screens,
Into scrolling,
Into a glass of wine or whatever helps us feel like the day is finally done.
And sometimes,
That's exactly what we need.
But tonight,
You chose something different.
You carved out a few minutes to actually close the day.
To let it go intentionally.
And that's worth something.
The evenings we give intention to become the evenings that restore us.
This is how you take your time back.
So let's begin.
Find a comfortable position.
You might be sitting up or already lying in bed.
Wherever you are,
See if you can make yourself just a little more at ease.
Adjust anything that needs adjusting.
And let your eyes soften closed.
Take a slow breath in through the nose.
And out through the mouth.
Let it go.
And another,
Breathing in.
And as you exhale,
Imagine you're breathing out the day.
All of it,
The busyness,
The noise,
The things that got done and the things that didn't.
Let the exhale carry it.
One more deep breath in.
And release,
Exhale.
Let the day begin to soften behind you.
Now let your breath return to its natural rhythm.
No need to control it,
Just let it be.
In and out through the nose.
Bring your attention gently to your body.
Start with your face.
Notice your forehead.
And let it soften.
Let your eyes feel heavy.
Let them rest.
Unclench your jaw.
Let your tongue soften and relax.
And now let that softness travel downward.
Through your neck.
Your throat.
Softening.
Into your shoulders.
Let them drop away from your ears.
Let them release.
Down through your arms,
Your hands,
Your fingers.
Heavy and soft.
Feel your chest rise and fall with each easy breath.
Let the muscles around your heart soften.
Let your belly be soft.
No holding,
No bracing.
Just release.
Down through your hips,
Your legs,
Your feet,
Your toes.
Let your whole body sink into whatever is holding you.
You are held.
The day is done.
There is nothing more you need to do tonight.
Now gently,
Let your mind look back at the day.
Not to analyze it.
Not to judge it.
Just to see it.
What happened this morning?
What did you do?
Who did you see?
What about the middle of the day?
The things you worked on?
The conversations you had?
The moments that pass?
And the afternoon?
How did you arrive here?
Whatever kind of day it was.
Full or empty.
Hard or easy.
Productive or scattered.
It's complete now.
And whatever day this was.
You lived it.
You showed up.
You did what you could with what you had.
And that is enough.
And that's not nothing.
That's a whole day of being alive.
Let yourself honor that.
So now,
Let it go.
Imagine gathering up the day.
All of it.
The things that got done.
The things that didn't.
Every moment.
Gather it up and gently placing it inside a small wooden box.
Close the lid.
And now notice.
There's a river that passes through your room.
A quiet river that comes every night to carry what you no longer need to hold on to.
What does it look like tonight?
Maybe it's dark and still.
Maybe it catches the light in soft purple or vivid green.
Maybe it sparkles softly.
Just let it appear however it appears.
Take the wooden box and gently place it on the water.
And watch it drift away.
Slowly.
Gently.
Until it is gone.
It's not yours to carry into sleep.
You've let it go.
Now let something you're grateful for rise to the surface.
It doesn't have to be big.
It might be something small.
A moment.
A person.
A feeling.
Something from today or something that's simply true about your life.
Let it come.
And when it does,
Feel it in your body.
Let it warm you.
Gratitude isn't about pretending the hard things don't exist.
It's about letting the good things land too.
Letting them count.
So let this one land.
Tomorrow is a new day.
Whatever happened today,
Whatever you wish had gone differently,
You don't have to solve it tonight.
You don't have to carry it into tomorrow.
Tomorrow,
You begin again.
Fresh.
A new day you haven't touched yet.
That's always true.
No matter what kind of day this was.
Before we close,
I want to ask you something.
Is there one small thing you could do for yourself tonight?
One small act of care?
It might be making a cup of tea.
Lighting a candle.
Reading a few pages of something you love.
Going to bed a little earlier than usual.
It doesn't have to be grand.
Just something that says to yourself,
I matter.
I'm worth taking care of.
Let it come to you,
Whatever it is.
And if nothing comes,
That's okay too.
Meet yourself wherever you are.
If something comes,
Hold it gently now.
A small gift you're giving yourself tonight.
And now,
Simply rest here for a moment.
Nothing more to do.
Nothing more to think about.
Just let yourself be held by the quiet.
Gently,
Begin to come back to this space you're in.
Feeling the surface beneath you.
Feeling the air on your skin.
Feeling the steady rhythm of your breath wave through you.
Letting go doesn't require effort.
It's not something you do.
It's something you allow.
And you've already begun.
Without rush.
When you're ready,
Let your eyes gently open.
Carry this with you into the rest of your evening.
The calm.
The softness.
The permission to move slowly.
You showed up for yourself tonight.
And that matters.
Sending you warmth.
Sending you steadiness.
