Hello,
I'm Nick Mann and I'm happy to bring you a meditation today titled Refuge Within the Storm.
This is a perfect meditation to use to reclaim your personal power and sense of balance in today's world.
Take a moment now to find a comfortable position,
Whether sitting or lying down.
Allow your eyes to lower,
Or perhaps close.
There is a lot happening in the world right now,
Noise,
Opinions,
Propaganda,
Conflict,
Fear-driven headlines,
Images designed to shock the nervous system.
And whether we realize it or not,
Our bodies are absorbing it.
Even when we're not directly involved,
Even when we think we are handling it,
The human nervous system was not built for 24-hour exposure to global crisis.
It was built for rhythm,
For cycles,
For safety cues,
For connection.
And this meditation is a space of refuge.
Not a place of denial,
Not a place of bypassing,
But a place of regulation,
A place where we remember even when the world feels chaotic,
Your breath is still here.
Your heart is still beating,
And there is a part of you that knows how to come home.
So wherever you are,
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Unclench your jaw.
Let your tongue rest gently in your mouth.
And take one slow breath in through your nose,
And let it go without force.
Again,
Inhale,
Exhale.
You don't need to control the breath,
Just lengthen it slightly.
For when your exhale gets longer than your inhale,
Something beautiful happens.
The parasympathetic nervous system begins to activate.
That's the part of you responsible for restoration,
For digestion,
For repair,
For calm clarity.
It is not weakness,
It is strength.
The world may run on urgency,
But your body heals through softness.
Take another breath,
And as you exhale,
Imagine you are setting down everything that is not yours to carry.
The wars,
The debates,
The narratives,
The fear cycles,
Set them down.
Not because they don't matter,
But because your nervous system cannot carry the entire planet.
Feel your feet,
Feel their contact with the floor.
That is a signal of safety.
Feel the support beneath you.
That is a sign of stability.
Place one hand gently over your heart.
Notice the warmth under your palm.
Your heart has been beating since before you had language,
Before you had political opinions,
Before you had stress about the future.
It has been steady,
Reliable,
Faithful.
And when you bring awareness to the heart space,
You begin to synchronize breath and heartbeat.
This coherence is measurable.
Hand on your heart shifts your chemistry.
It lowers cortisol.
It steadies the mind.
You do not need to escape the world.
You only need to anchor within yourself.
Take another slow breath in,
And longer breath out.
Imagine that your inhale is gathering any scattered energy,
And your exhale brings it safely back to your chest,
Back to your center,
Back into this moment.
Notice that right now,
In this breath,
You are safe.
You may not control global events,
But you can regulate your internal state,
And that matters.
It matters because a regulated nervous system makes wiser choices,
Speaks with more clarity,
Acts with less reactivity,
And contributes to the world from steadiness,
Not fear.
The most radical thing you can do in chaotic times is remain centered.
So let your breath move in like the tide,
And out,
In,
And out.
As you exhale,
Imagine your body softening down your spine,
As if gravity is gently pulling you towards the earth.
The earth has held conflict for thousands of years,
And still,
It grows trees.
Still,
It grows food.
Still,
It supports life.
Let your body borrow from that steadiness.
When thoughts arrive,
And they will,
Simply acknowledge them,
And return to the breath.
Return to the heart.
Return to sensation.
The parasympathetic system responds to three main cues,
Slow breathing,
Gentle touch,
And a sense of connection.
You are practicing all three right now.
Slow breath,
Hand on heart,
Connected to others who are also choosing peace in this moment.
This is how we come home,
Not by forcing positivity,
But by stabilizing our internal environment.
Take one more deep,
Steady breath,
And as you exhale,
Feel your shoulders drop another inch.
Imagine that the area around your heart becomes spacious,
Not armored,
Not braced,
Steady.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to pause.
You are allowed to unplug from urgency.
Your nervous system deserves cycles of restoration,
And when you tend to your inner state,
You become part of the solution,
Because calm spreads,
Presence spreads,
Regulation spreads.
Now let these words settle into you,
Slowly,
Gently,
Like seeds being planted.
You may repeat them silently or whisper them out loud if you like.
I am allowed to slow down.
I do not need to carry the entire world.
My breath brings me home.
My body knows how to return to balance.
I choose steadiness over reactivity.
I anchor into my heart.
Calm is available to me.
Peace begins with me.
My nervous system can reset.
I am safe.
I am grounded.
I am centered.
I am steady in uncertain times.
Take one final breath in.
Let it go slowly.
Breathe natural,
Comfortable pace.
And as we bring this meditation to a conclusion,
Please know it is always available to you to turn to refuge within.
Hand on heart,
Slow breathing,
Unplugged from urgency.
Where your attention goes,
Your life flows.
Be mindful.
Stay centered.
And when you are ready,
Gently wiggle your fingers or toes,
But don't rush back.
Let yourself transition slowly.
And remember,
One breath,
One hand on heart.
Find refuge.
It is not somewhere else.
It is within you.
Thank you for joining me on today's meditation and finding refuge in these times.
Namaste.
