Namaste.
Namaste.
The light in me honors the light in you.
Or the light in me sees the light in you.
Or the light in me connects to the light in you.
This definition,
This reframe,
This focus of the word Namaste has sort of given me a little bit of a deeper appreciation of the word.
Namaste is one of these things that,
Well,
At least in the West seems to be thrown around a little bit and can be quite well,
Frankly,
Cliche.
A bit of a trope.
A bit of something that spiritual people quite unquote,
Do.
But don't really quite resonate with.
Almost like they say it as an identity marker rather than with the energy and the truth that should be projected or is supposedly projected by those words.
So when you reframe it,
When you really deconstruct it,
And you really consider the idea of the light in me honors,
Or sees,
Or acknowledges the light in you,
Then that little greeting,
That little gesture,
That word has such depth and wealth and connection and healing as to become quite significantly meaningful.
So what I wanted to do with this little talk is just delve into exactly what is meant by the light in me honors the light within you.
Because that to me is something that will probably benefit us all.
But I want to start with a little bit of a story.
I went away on holiday quite a few years back now and I had the opportunity to practice yoga on the beach every morning.
Now I meditate daily but I don't daily go down to the beach or daily practice yoga.
So this was a little bit of an opportunity that I was happy to play with,
Happy to explore.
And I was doing yoga on the beach and the facilitator started or ended the sessions with the word namaste.
And I was curious as to the meaning.
So I looked it up.
The light in me honors the light in you.
Wow,
That resonates.
But then I was like,
What does that actually mean?
What does it mean to investigate the idea of the light within me honoring the light within you?
What is the light within me?
Can I access it?
And can I equally access the light within you?
So I was meditating and I was stretching and I had this thought to just play with a little bit of the idea of meta meditation.
That is loving kindness.
That is offering the people around you and yourself and the world to be free of ill will.
To be free of pain.
To be full of loving kindness.
To be happy.
And then a visualization came to me.
Over my heart space and over the heart spaces of everyone around me I saw this,
For lack of a better expression,
A fractal-like pattern of gold and purple and pinks.
Sort of this resonant glowing energy in myself and in others.
Sort of drawing us together.
Connecting us.
And in those moments I felt a deeper sense of peace and connection that I'd felt in quite some time.
This was fully born about just from stretching on a beach.
Just from meditation.
Just from turning my attention to the idea of loving kindness.
Of meta.
Of connection.
The idea of the practice of namaste.
The light in me honours the light in you.
And when this visualization came,
It basically didn't leave.
It stuck with me for the rest of the day and the rest of the holiday.
And I can very quickly and easily come back to it now in my,
Quote unquote,
Waking life.
My normal life.
I will walk down the street and I'll start to remember this idea of meta.
This idea of namaste.
This idea of this pattern of connective energy.
Of love.
That binds us all together.
And the visualization returns.
And I soften in the process.
I'm more forgiving.
I'm more kind.
I'm more loving.
I'm more there.
I'm more present.
And it's beautiful.
And when combined with this definition,
It makes the practice of namaste.
The light in me honouring and seeing the light within you far more real.
Now to be clear,
There is,
At least in general circles,
Quite a stigma around the idea of namaste.
So I'm not going around saying it to everyone.
But I am going around with the intentionality of namaste.
Of offering loving kindness.
Of being in that space mentally,
Spiritually,
Physically where possible.
Of just seeing beyond the surface.
There is more to everyone.
More to yourself.
There is a depth of possibility and potential within everyone.
The light within me sees and honours the light within you.
Namaste.
What I know for certain is that the more I introspect,
The more I look deeply,
The more I turn the lens of attention inwards,
The more I realise just how deep I go.
Indeed,
It feels infinite.
That I can't help but feel that the more I explore relationships with other people,
The deeper they go.
The deeper they are,
The more full of a person I get to experience.
They are infinite,
As am I.
Namaste.
The light in me honours the light in you.
The light in me sees the light in you.
Now I'm not claiming to know the truth of the spirituality or the practices of the nature of the universe or anything like that.
But I do know that there is an infinite potential and power inside myself.
And there seems to be the same thing within others.
Thus,
If I can sit in that space,
That place,
That connection,
That resonance,
That light,
That self,
That God,
The universe,
Whatever you call that space,
And see that space in others,
Good things happen for everyone.
So I just wanted to share this insight with you.
This working definition of Namaste.
The light in me honours the light in you.
The light in me sees the light in you.
And just offer a general practice to just sit in that space and use Namaste as a practice.
Namaste.
