I couldn’t agree more. I think today we do our kids a major disservice with the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality. Kids (and adults) have to learn about losing, struggle, and in turn growth. In the real world, not everyone wins the new job , gets the lead role in a show, wins the “big game”, gets the promotion, etc . I think it’s vital to let people learn about conflict, disappointment and how to deal with that. We aren’t doing our kids any favors by teaching them that everything they embark on is an instant success. It may take a lot of hard work and many tries- and oh how much sweeter the victory is because of the hard work and time we had to put in.

Great story for me today. I really needed to be reminded of this.

Good timing to stumble on this as I watch my daughter deal with job search frustrations and I want to help make the process “easier” for her.

Great story Yogi. I can personally identify. I actually did the exact same thing helping a baby duck birth it’s way out of it’s shell. It’s two other siblings fought their way out and the third looked as though it couldn’t do it. I too, broke away some of its shell and took away it’s natural instinct to fight to live and it didn’t make it. That being said, perhaps it’s whole purpose was to teach me the lesson of the hard work, struggle and fight we all do need to go through to get strong and grow our wings to fly, swim and walk in life. 😎🙏
