Meditation for Memory This Kundalini Yoga meditation,
Called Kirtan Kriya,
Has been shown to reverse cognitive decline when practiced daily.
Find a comfortable seat and bring your internal gaze to your third eye,
Between your eyebrows.
Rest the back of your hands on your knees and the tips of your thumb and index fingers gently touching.
This is Gyan Mudra,
Chant Sa,
Representing infinity,
The cosmos,
And the beginning of time.
Then bring the tips of your thumbs to the tips of your middle finger and say,
Ta,
Life and existence.
Next,
Bring the tips of your thumbs to the tips of your ring fingers and say,
Na,
Death,
Change,
And transformation.
Finally,
Bring the tips of your thumbs and pinky fingers together and say,
Ma,
Rebirth.
We will repeat this cycle for roughly 11 minutes and spend about 3 seconds on each mantra and finger.
Thumb to index finger,
Sa,
Thumb to middle finger,
Ta,
Thumb to ring finger,
Na,
Thumb to pinky finger,
Ma,
Repeat this with a normal indoor voice.
Sa,
Ta,
Na,
Ma,
Sa,
Ta,
Na,
Ma.
Continue on your own.
For 2 minutes,
Whisper the chant.
Sa,
Ta,
Na,
Sa,
Ta.
Continue on your own.
For 3 minutes,
Say the chant silently in your head.
Return to the whisper chant for 2 minutes.
Sa,
Ta,
Na.
For 2 minutes,
Continue the chant in a normal indoor voice.
Sa,
Ta,
Na,
Ma.
Conclude your chant,
Hold your fingers still,
And sit in silence for 1 minute.
